As I already mentioned before on this thread, Chinese are perfect in stealing someone's genius designs/solutions and then offer that cheap ;)

At least, it works for pens...

Lots of makers have snap caps, so your point isn’t valid. Lamy Safari and Al-Star also have snap caps. Both are $20-30 pens.

And, why didn’t Parker use their own creative genius, if you feel the Chinese stole it?

Because Sheaffer would be cross.

Although I do believe Parker did use the  name "Imperial" in their marketing in the past. But I don't think new 51 is supposed to be a high-end pen, rather medium segment.

....

Holds back from making an actual comment to avoid provoking a sh**storm over copyright issues.

WJM, you can read some discussion some time ago exactly here ;)

We already discussed this subject some time ago here... ;)

No need to make more off-topic flood, I think ;)

Everyone has it sown opinion on this matter and make his own choice...

For now.  That was said about the Japanese some time ago.

Hi AL01,

IDK. With today's technology and engineering; I'm not even sure if one format varies that much in cost from the other.

TBH, though, I don't mind not having the clutch cap; I'm tired of all the rub mark's on my 21/51/61 sections. :(

- Sean  :)

Hello Sean,

Those marks were annoying, and on the 45, the clutch would deform the sections too.

I don't know, maybe it would take some R&D to make a clutch mechanism that wouldn't suffer from the previous problems and meet EU regulations...

(The bullet-esque shape of the pens do not help either if Parker doesn't want to take a page from the Lamy 2000.)

Me too.  I don't like those marks at all.

Lamy 2000...  what an intelligent fountain pen!

One could easily argue that for the general design of Sailor pens, but people love them because they enjoy the way they write, (the colors and build quality help too.)

What the market desires is also important. Clearly enough people don't mind copying/homages/re-imaginings of pen designs, but that point, in itself is a designer rabbit-hole.

Generally the masses don't like slip caps.  My favorite comment is 'they feel cheap'.

Don't doubt you at all, but wonder who the commenters are.  Never had an issue with 51's, or MB 14's, both solid quality pens.

Parker used Imperial for a gold plated 75 model in the 70s. (Parker75.com).

I don't post often, although visit quite frequently. I am an avid fountain pen user, and have been since I could write (67 yrs old now). I have a "soft spot" for hooded nib pens, own about 15 original 51's, a couple of 61's, a few 21's and 45's, 2 of the 51's from the early 2000's, plus the 100, the original DuoCart, the reproduction Duo Cart, the Esterbrook from a couple of years, Lamy 2K's, and the Chinese knock-offs of 51's and I just ordered the new 51......not because I expect it to be as my original 51's, but just because I love hooded nib pens, and it IS a Parker(although Parker may not be Parker of old). I will put it into rotation, and we will see....No-one needs to flame me, just my 2cents worth.

I like your style and I can see myself where you are in a couple of years. Cheers!!

Just something about hooded nib pens (and I have PLENTY of non-hooded nib pens) that "flips my trigger" as it were. Of all the pens I own, my most frequently inked-never has failed me-go to pen is an Aeromatic 51, grey color barrel. Just a workhorse of a pen, still has original everything and just keeps going.

Do you think any parts of this Parker 51 are made in China?

On threads vs. slip-on=push-cap:

I used to think that the nicest pen I've ever had in my whole life was the Parker Classic, because I have never held anything so nice & unique up until that point in my life. I'm pretty sure that's considered a push cap right? it's a little bit different in design since when you post it clips on... so it's different BUT I think it's a push cap. STILL the point is that pushcaps are awesome; according to my brain hahahah

Threads are inconvenient and when done correctly a mark of high quality, luxury, accuracy, precision, and world class craftsmanship(again; according to my brain haha). This was my impression after holding a nnnnniiiiiiiiiiice Parker Vacumatic from 1946! if you put that pen away nib side up aligned with the clip as you inserted it into the cap, as you finished screwin' the threads in, when you got to the finish point, the clip would always line up perfectly with the words stamped on the barrel. It's just flawless! Plus the pen feels so solid.... ....... unlike my WearEver (my first fountain pen). the threaded cap on that pen suUuuucks hahaha 😄

At the end if the day I prefer spending my time writing notes with a pen which writes well, and feels nice; irrespective of the threads or slip-on nature of it's cap.

ALSO just a side note: I like all people of Earth. However I do my best to buy things made in the U.S.A. and if not possible then certain other countries like Taiwan, England, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Japan, etc.. You know; countries with governments that have respectable business practices.

So for real for real:

While it is expected that new P51 will have marking “FRANCE” or “Made in France”, it is difficult to make any firm conclusions on where its parts are made.

Under the current French regulations one can legitimately mark a product as “Made in France” if he can prove that not less than 45% of the product's value is created in France (though different and much more strict rules are applied to food, drinks and cosmetics there). In the past that threshold was 65% but was relaxed a few years ago, as far as I remember…

Thus, technically, one can bring all the parts of the product from outside France and just pay his local French workers for assembling and packing, and then mark the product as “Made in France”.

We may speculate on this issue but may never know the truth for sure, unless some Newell employees leak relevant plausible information/facts to the public or their relatives… ;)

All the best is only beginning now...

I watched a video by appelboom showing the new 51s. The feeder and nib look very much like the ones found on the vector. Can anyone confirm?

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

I haven't watched the Appelboom video yet but I did watch the Douglas Rathbun's titled   "Jinhao 85 Fountain Pen Unboxing and Review 2021: Is this the ACTUAL Parker 51 Reissue?"

This video is not about the Parker 51 2021 series, but contains some interesting information about it.  Interesting.
