Oh... some people can't resist turning to politics even talking about such a benign subject like fountain pens... ;)

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Products are made by someone who just wants to have a good life like me and I suspect you.

Exactly. No government is perfect, and, unfortunately, accusations won't bring us as far as we would hope...

While I personally could care less for Chinese - made fountain pens, globalization is a good thing, and, dare I say, is one of the reasons why fountain pens are having a sort of resurgence nowadays.

I have bought directly from Chinese makers of violins and bows. They are well made which says to me that something is going right even in a bad situation.

Now days, we can all point hypocrticatl fingers at another form of government and be correct in our views, but, having said all that, there are people connecting to people globally that is a good thing.

That's interesting. I considered buying Chinese violins a few years ago. In the end I decided not too. But they were OK and quite cheap.

It seems you have slightly missed the mark as I never made any conclusions... ;)

However, I fully agree with you on everyone's desire to have a good life, and everyone makes his/her choice on the way to reach that.

And I'm really enjoying to having received very interesting answers and comments to my "simple" question while we all are waiting for our pre-ordered new P51s 🙂

Okay, and thank you for correcting my conclusions.

Very well made Eastman violins and snakewood bows. Also, I've acquired Baroque bows.

I bought an Italian (modern) violin in the end, and two very good English bows, one from about 1930 and the other brand new in about 2017. Now I just need to sell them.

Even though we might be tiptoeing about rhetoric topics such as geopolitics and globalisation etc on the public internet space, I must say that, at no point I can tolerate copyright and intellectual rights infringements. They are illegal. As a consumer, I have the choice of wanting no part of that supply/demand chain.

Sure, please, read my posts a few pages before...

As many of Parker's designs/IP rights are no longer protected and in a public domain now, it is a personal choice of everyone to buy/not to buy cheap copies of excellent genuine products even made in the past.

I've made my position very clear a few posts before.

The German skilled crafts people, circa 1890's, were making fiddles with Stradivarius labels.

Very good point 🙂

Just wanted to mention that Germans (who themselves invented many excellent things) are probably the best in legally obtaining some great and promising inventions/designs/technologies and bringing them to commercial success, and they are perfect in doing that.

And those perfect and successful products are never lousy cheap copies...

This does not legitimise all future intellectual property infringement cases.

The point is that it's an old practice.

Hmm. No.  I'm going out on a limb here.

The shoe's on the wrong foot. Parker should have made the WS 601 Vac filler as the "New" 51, and Jinhao the cheesy knock-off that Parker gives us for 6X the price.

Why would I pay £199 for a gold nibbed "New" version when I can get the much more sophisticated, elegant, and technologically superior original for a third of the price?

It's a cheap marketing ploy to exploit the reputation and mystique of the original whilst offering an inferior product at inflated prices

I'll don my hard hat and retreat to the bomb shelter in the back garden.

Add lightness and simplicate.

That's absolutely fine and understandable, as we are all free to make our own choice...

In my early posts on this topic I clearly mentioned I had no illusions about quality of this "new" P51 made and launched under Newell (no longer a genuine Parker Pen Company)...

I have no high expectations and am well-aware of Newell's motives...

But I will buy this P51 just to have it in my collection, perfectly understanding that there is nothing rational behind my decision at all 🙂

... and I will keep purchasing genuine vintage P51s as well... ;)

I wonder if Parker considers FPN as the market force to drive product development.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

Come on out pen friend, the air is free and breezy ☺️

We can all suspend judgment because the pen has not been launched yet. The secret sauce of 21st century genuine Parker quality has yet to be revealed with this classic.

I do think the user/consumer has to contribute some magical thinking in fountain pen custodianship. It is the only way to maintain the reality distortion field outside of the universe that we're just talking about tubes that ooze ink.

Enjoy pens!
