First pen fill of the year is my Pelikan M800 with the custom blue lizard binde from Shawn Newton, filled with Diamine Mediterranean blue!

PAKMAN: Very cool design, vintage blue lizard goes very handsomely with this model!

Fred: beautiful pens! M101N with its modern remake of the famous vintage look, and the custom pen with material looking like ocean swirls with beautiful blue and turquoise. What’s the name of this material, may I ask?

I finally finished the Pilot desk pen and have three pens inked.

Today I will be using:

  • My Sailor 1911S Wicked Witch of the West pen, with TAG Kyoto Soft Snow of Ohara
  • My old Shaeffer Viewpoints calligraphy pen, with J Herbin Amethyste de l'Oural
  • My Platinum Balance, with Birmingham Allegheny River Twilight

I should qualify this statement, insofar as I have used my Platinum Balance only to write today's date.  Another forum member has reported, in multiple posts, that his Balance dries out relatively quickly.  I have never noticed this phenomenon and am running a test in which I will write with the pen only once a week, either for two months or until I observe evaporation significant enough to corroborate the other member's report.

Another upcoming blog post sketched out, 4 pages of handwritten content. That’s 3 upcoming blogs now written like that. I find writing them by hand much more productive for generating ideas, often unexpected, that I would otherwise miss saying. This blog due late Jan / early Feb. Visconti Homo Sapiens Midnight in Florence fountain pen with a fine nib and loaded with Diamine Scribble Purple ink.

Shawn does great work, he also did a M1000 binde for me in the same material!

Someday I'm going to maybe be able to afford something from him....  Sadly, he doesn't do this sort of work on smaller pens.

So far today it's been the grey Pilot Decimo, F nib, with Kobe Rokku Forest Blue; and the ebonite Konrad, with Noodler's 54th Massachusetts.

I'm going to have to watch that Konrad carefully over the next few days, though -- first, when I put it down on top of the washing machine, the cap band FELL OFF (apparently it's just friction fit).  No damage, but now I'm wondering if there is a good way to attach it more permanently.  Then, I had it clipped to a sweatshirt that was going into another load, and got clear back up to the second floor before realizing that the pen was still clipped to the neck opening! :headsmack:  I rushed back down to the basement from the second floor, and the cycle had only rung for about a minute -- the exterior of the pen showed no apparent damage (other than needing the soapy water rinsed off), but the agitation even for that small amount of time caused the nib to be covered with ink (and I suspect that there's also a lot of ink inside the cap now as well).  But because the cap (fortunately) didn't come loose, I averted a MAJOR disaster -- because of course 54th MA is one of the more waterproof ink out there.... :o  (And no, nobody needs to tell me that it could have been KTC instead -- I already know what THAT's like....)

Today was the first time I put my new (new to me) 1949 Parker 51 with a fine nib through its paces. It's my first 51 and I'm amazed how smooth it is for a 70+ year old pen.

Today I used my twin LE Conklin Conklinettas, No. 22/98 with a medium nib, and No. 04/98 with a broad nib. Both filled with Watermans Serenity Blue. These are the beautiful marbled blue and cream smaller original versions with chrome accents, made in Italy, that came out in 2015, and they are both buttery smooth writers.

Congratulations.  I had the same reaction when I got my first Parker 51.  What ink are you using?

Today, my primary writing is with an Edison Premiere in Cappuccino Swirl with Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-guri ink. As a secondary highlighter, I am using a Pelikan M200 gold marbled with Pilot Iroshizuku Ina-ho ink.

The sweetest little Merlin 33 that's come to live with me and has had a nice wash and brush up (though still needs a proper scrub behind the ears). Wearing Kyo no oto aonibi, which I was worried might be too pale for quite a fine nib, but has worked beautifully - and is such a pretty ink.
