I'm figuring out how many pens I want inked at once, and what sort of variety I want available in terms of both nibs and ink colors.

I'm also working my way through blue and black ink sample sets I bought after reading some of the "best blues"/"best blacks" threads, but it's been slow going.

Thank you, Fred. That's good to know. I have some vintage safety pens. As these can be very small in size and opening (my Waterman safety weighs only 9 grams), it's not always easy to clean. Sometimes it requires a little shake. I often just use a syringe and flush the barrel while holding the safety upside down so I don't get water on the barrel outer ebonite surface. These giant Japanese eyedroppers do look easier to clean. That's a nice pen you have.

Fred

Como....Eboya Kyouka large with ink shut off valve is very easy to clean....{And $400 USD more than C/C fill }

Remove section..flush barrel ........till water is clear...using ear syringe flush section....

Personally find it to be the same as a C/C to clean...............YMMV

Parker 51 Demi - Montblanc Purdey Single Malt

I have been conducting a "scientific" test by leaving this little beauty uncapped all morning. I write with it off and on, on this notepad and elsewhere - sometimes 15 or 20 min between writing. (Don't mind the scribbles) Only once did it hard start about half a letter, after being uncapped and unused for at least 30 minutes. (The "R" in "Rock me")

Parker 51s kick so much butt. . .

Also, this ink is darker and darker the more it evaporates, and I am loving it.

Today so far it's been the red Cross Solo, F nib, with Ferris wheel Press Tanzanite Sky; and the stainless steel Parker Vector, M nib, with diluted Birmingham Pens Madame C.J. Walker Elegant Fuchsia ( a decision I'm now rethinking because diluing the ink that much makes it sort of an insipid pinkish-red instead of the vibrant dark Burgundy red it normally is).

Despite a self-imposed moratorium on buying pens since the start of the pandemic, I continue to succumb to temptation. My latest is this Montblanc 14, which I bought for its exquisite oblique nib. Filled with Iroshizuku Kon-Peki.

Today I plan to use:

  • My Sailor 1911S Wicked Witch of the West M, with Sailor Kobe Suma Purple, for a creative project
  • My Parker 51 Plum Demi, with Rohrer & Klingner Aubergine, for various scribblings throughout the day
  • My Pilot Prera F, Montblanc Lavender Purple, for underlining and annotations in a paperback novel

Tonight, I used my beautiful Pelikan 140. Despite not having used it in quite a while, it still had ink in it but I topped it off anyway. MV Sapphire, btw.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Muji stainless steel dressed with a Swan No 2 14k Nib ( why I put this details is it gives a very different writing experience in this pen than the PO Schmidt F that come with)

Inked with Parker Blue Black Ink.

Today it's been a couple of Parkers and a Pilot:

1) Parker 61 (black, M nib) -- J Herbin Violette Pensee.

2) Parker Vector (stainless steel, F nib) -- diluted Birmingham Pens Madame C.J. Walker Elegant Fuchsia.

3) Pilot Decimo (grey, F nib) -- Iroshizuku Tsuyu-kusa.

Oh, and I let the Philistine (er, darling husband) borrow the Parker Vacumatic (Silver Pearl Major, F nib) to write a check.
