What Pens Are You Using Today 2020

Noodler's Neponset - I seem to have a thing for "kitsch" (it is orange and green...seriously, why, but why?). I constantly go from "gee, what's that thing?" to "hey, that's cool" - but I really enjoy the feeling of this big ebonite pen. It is also particularly pleasant at the end of the day when my hand is tired or cramped after too much calligraphy.

The nib was not for me (something I knew before buying it - I wanted the ebonite and the shape!) so I've swapped it with an FPR flex that has finally found its perfect pen.

My Stipula Novecento run out of ink yesterday as I was taking notes.

A quick pause for a coffee allowed me to fill up somewhat in a hurry this M400 Old style (pre 1997) with a 14k OB nib.

That Bexley looks fantastic, Fred! Howard was making some great pens back then...

Yes. The Gold Line collection resembles the Wahl-Eversharp Coronet i.e. gold cap with celluloid barrel.

It could be worse -- you could have a Burgundy trying to masquerade as Cordovan Brown....

I've noticed that there is some difference in color between the barrel and blind cap on my Dove Gray 51 Vac, but it's not as extreme as on yours. To the best of my knowledge, both of my Cedar Blues have no discoloration.

Your comment has prompted me to see what I can do about the blind cap, the problem is that it is the barrel that has become pale and not the cap, a new cap is just about the same color as mine.

This pen is not smart enough to be a prima donna and the nib is a touch too fine, perhaps it would be a nice PIF candidate.

Waternan Kultur translucent blue inked with Montblanc Permanent Blue. Hard starts ever time but it get writing after some encouragement.

Just out of interest, is it the MB PB that causes the hard starts in your pen? Not neccessarily relevant but have you found that it causes hard starts in other pens?

I have a Pelikan M400 that I bought new in 1985. It has a springy, flexy EF nib. It's been an utterly reliable pen for 35 years and is a superb writer, especially since Deb Kinney reshaped the tipping about 12 years ago. I'll never part with it voluntarily.

The song by Love? Kewl....

Back on topic. So far for me it's been the M405 Stresemann, just re-inked up with Edelstein Olivine; because I decided that I needed green ink in my life at the moment....

ETA: Now I'm earworming the song, which makes a change from what I was earworming earlier today: "The Woad Song" (no, I don't know why, it just decided I needed to be earworming it...).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

MB PB has clogged up other pens to the point where they didn't write properly. The worst case was in my MB 146 which just stopped working and it took me quite a while to get it cleaned out. The ink dried to a very firm sludge between the nib and feed. It worked for a while in my Pelikan M200, but after a short while it caused it to slow start. I have it in my Kultur just to use it up.

Thanks,

I have had problems with the same ink, also with a 146, I switched to Parker Washable Blue and the problems went away.

Platinum 3776 Nice Lavande, which I'm looking forward to finishing, because it has been inked (with Sailor Shigure) for several months.

Pelikan 140 with Iroshizuku Kujaku, which will take longer to empty because I use colors other than purple only for the occasional accent.

You know, no matter what pen I try, I always come back to these two.

Top: 1940s Parker Vac 51 (M) - Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue

Bottom: 1960s Parker 45 Flighter (14k M) - Kaweco Midnight Blue

I also have a pair of P45s inked, but these two are my main drivers.

Today was mostly my Lamy Al Star in aluminum finish with F nib inked with Lamy Petrol, Pelikan M400 White Tortoise with a B and inked with KWZI El Dorado. I ised a couple of others, but those got the most use today.
