What Is Your Favorite Ink?

I seem to use a lot of Kaweco Caramel Brown, so I guess you could consider it my favorite.

Oh that looks nice. The only Dutch Masters ink I've tried that I've liked enough to get a full bottle of is Stormachtig Blauw; I keep looking at a couple of others but haven't gotten samples yet (I found that the Ceruleum Blauw didn't wow me). And there's Kardinaal Paars, which also looks interesting but someone who reviewed it said it was really similar to Diamine Tyrian Purple -- which I have. Of course, this one kinda looks like Diamine Classic Red, which I also have....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Ruth, I felt the same way! However, it was my very first bottle of Akkerman, and really wanted the bottle.

Plan on sticking with my Diamine, Noodler's, Sheaffer, Iroshizuku and occasional deAtramentis inks. Have

recently enjoyed the Luscious Pink ink by Dryden Designs. The Dryden Million Dollar Red looks more

like strawberry in color. Seen deeper saturated inks, however, it is interesting in my journals. Have

one more new bottle of ink to use - deAtramentis Alexander von Humboldt. It is suppose to be a

dark green. I am wondering if it is going to be as green as my Diamine Sherwood Green (one of my

favorite colors)..

I have come to truly appreciate browns, mainly for their understated poise and unfailing readability, and regularly have several pens inked up with Waterman Brilliant Brown, although I also love the subtle Diamine Rustic Brown. Sheaffer Red will always be in at least one pen (always), and Herbin's surely exquisite gift, Vert de Gris, is a pleasure I find increasingly hard to be without. It has the softness of the love of a child.

Then there merely needs to be a blue, that heroic and cheering hue: usually a rotation between several Diamine's such as the ever-ernest Oxford, but a Waterman might creep in now and then.

My tastes have grown simpler with time. Exotic now means Black Swans in English Roses.

So there. That's my one favorite ink.

Sailor Sei-boku is my everyday ink. Its waterproof, its a nice color, it shades beautifully, and it behaves well on cheap paper (good for work). I only use it in my cheapest pen, a yellow Lamy Safari, and it has stained the grip a little bit. I cant get it out! But its still my favorite ink.

Hero 232 Blue Black (if it can be found any longer)

Parker Quink Permanent Blue Black with Solv-X (again...if it can be found)

Sailor Jentle Blue

Sailr Jentle Blue Black

Parker Quink Permanent Black

J. Herbin Perle Noire

Okay, so I've listed 6 but that's simply because they are all good and I enjoy using them. I could add a seventh but then there would be an eighth...

Hero 232 Blue Black (if it can be found any longer)

I can see no fewer than five seven current listings for it on AliExpress (and, yes, I actually selected "ship to the US" as a filter).

I see the blue and black but not 232 specifically, I do see 233 and afaik that is regular blue, not blue-black

So don't look for it specifically, but try to find listings where Blue-Black is a selectable product (colour) option. No, I'm not trying to be all smug and superior; it took me a long while to work that out for myself, and I'm just giving the 'secret' to you plainly.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I use Diamine Oxford Blue the most, but my favourite blues are Diamine Sapphire Blue and Imperial Blue. I have pens currently loaded these three inks.

J. Herbin Rouge Grenat

J. Herbin Perle Noire

J. Herbin Bleu des Profoundeurs

In that order.

I'm one of those that prefers inks from pen manufacturers (like Lamy, Pelikan, Dupont, Caran d'A Ache, Montblanc etc.) but J. Herbin in the exception.

Thanks, all the online retailers have quirks like that, with AliExpress probably being the worst culprit of making things difficult to find.

I just wonder what's your favorite ink. If you tell me I'll find and try it.

I like Diamine Peach Haze and Lamy Petrol

Thx

To my ever shortening list of essential inks (from what at one point seemed to be an ever expanding range) I now have confidence to say that Rohrer & Klingner Sepia is my perfect Taupe, and would take a place in my overall top four.

Cacao Du Bresil (warmer), Yama Guri (more violet?), Winky's Root Beer k(more grey), Kaweco Caramel (pinkish!), De Atramentis' Marone (fickle!), Sailor Jentle Doyou (perfect, but so dark!) are all great cool browns, and each has its particular virtue, but the R&K for me has that perfect balance between brown and grey without a particular underlying hue.

Lamy Dark Lilac - For it's beauty

Sailor irori - reddest red available on the market

Organic studio nitrogen - best sheen available on the market

noodler Baystate Blue - for it's smell

Redder than Sheaffer Skrip Red?

So what are the other three in your overall top four? I'm guessing that Scabiosa is among them.

Mine changes with time. First it was Parker Penman Saphire, then Parker Quink Blue Black, then Levenger Cobalt Blue, then Diamine Mediterranean Blue, then most recently Iroshizuku Kon-Peki. All blues, hmm wonder what my favorite color is???
