Looking For A Leather Bound Notebook Cover.

Greetings Lord's & Ladies of the Pen.

Since 2019 has been a Horrific year for yours truly, how about breaking my back for starters, my Wonderful Mrs. Decided that I needed a special Christmas and told me to buy whatever I want as long as my new toys ship to her for wrapping for me to open Christmas day. Also, she asked me to not bankrupt us.

I spent 3 days on eBay before I managed to snag a Georgous & Massive Victorian Deskset W/Double Inkwells and Pen Rest at a beyond reasonable price. Then I made the best of a big sale at Fountain Pen Revolution for a couple of Pens & Ink.

Per the above, I rather quickly (and inexpensively) with minimal effort got everything on my list except one rather simple item. A nice Leather Notebook Cover for a Moleskin Journal.

I just want a nice Vintage type cover that will hold the notebook in place. And with a flap that keeps the end Covered. And when closed a leather cord that wraps around it all.

No free pens (I have nice ones). No pen pockets (all my shirts have pockets. No Plastic Bags to hold junk, No strings with shiny Anchors and the like to mark my page, and the only leather carvings on the cover would be my initials at the most.

Any and all help will be appreciated!

I am sorry to hear that 2019 has been an annus horribilis I hope that you are well on the way to recovery.

There are many cheap notebook covers coming from the far east that fit your description however I think you are looking for something a little more from your intended purchase.

Leather notebook covers will over time absorb oils from your hands and become very personal items.

There are many makers in the USA who I am sure would make you exactly what you are looking for and for a reasonable price.

I hope that you have purchased a suitable gift for such an understanding wife.

Best of luck for 2020.

Can't help you with finding a notebook cover, I am still looking for a nice one myself. I purchased a 'van der Spek' cover from a web store. Looked nice, good reviews, but once I held it in my hands, I was quite disappointed. Doesn't lie flat, soft and spongy feel to it. It's best to feel before you buy.

As far as you breaking your back, I know how it feels. Broke my back in a motorcycle accident in June this year, and for two months the pain was terrible. Much better now, but I still need to get back into shape due to lack of exercise. They told me it may take a year before it has fully recovered.

However, since my other hobbies (motorcycle riding and woodworking) were a no-no, I spent a lot of time on fountain pens, and writing with them. So for every minus there is a plus. In your case, some nice goodies that will still be there to enjoy even after the memory of the bad things that happened this year have mellowed and faded....

Good luck, and full recovery!

This is my X17 leather notebook cover in size A6. A nice notebook cover made in Germany from tanned Belgian leather. This notebook can hold up to 3 A6 sized notebooks. The paper of the standard delivered notebooks is not fountain pen friendly, so I put 3 notebooks with Toe River paper in it (Pebble Stationary co).

Lovely notebook, greetings,

Ruud

Hi Stompie, I bought it from '24papershop', a Dutch stationary site. Nice webshop and good service. I bought the little notebooks from the Dutch webshop 'La Couronne du Comte', a nice webshop also. I think you can also order the notebook directly from The X17 webshop.

Good Luck, greetings,

Portsmouth is a nice town. I have been there when my daughter did her internship in Portsmouth.

Thanks Rudolf, I got hold of them and managed to place an order!

I hope I did it right as my Hollands is not that good - seeing as how it is Afrikaans actually :D , but hopefully all is in order.

Very helpful Lady there and very efficient as well - 24papershop is where I placed the order.

Once again, Thank you!

  • 2 weeks later...

For anyone looking for leather covers to his/her own liking, check out:

https://vdsshop.com/

I am highly anticipating two covers. Petra van der Spek (owner, main contact for specific wishes, and overall genuine nice person) informed me they will arrive next week:

TN cover - for my personal notes/todos/thoughts/etc.

A5 notebook cover - for my business notes

I am contemplating to also order a cover for A4 pads.

The choice sizes, in leathers, in standard options, in colors is already l a r g e. And to make the cover truly your own you can add your personal wishes. In my case the addition of credit card slots on the TN cover and the exclusion of a pen loop on the A5 cover as I carry my pens in the Pilot Somes pen sleeves.

They are fairly priced for made-to-order products and have a lead time of slightly over 5 weeks. Finally, upon request, they will send you some pictures of the production process.
