Launched Today The Taj Mahal Collection In India At The Vicinity Of The Taj Mahal

I have been following this thread since it first appeared. With all due respect for my friends here, I must disagree with the critical comments above. The highly ornate feather-design has been present in Mogul, Hindu, and Persian art for centuries. In many cases, artists and patrons consider the more elaborate design the better. Those of us from a very different artistic and aesthetic tradition need to educate ourselves before judging a piece of art which may strike us personally as unattractive.

It's supposed to be a pen.

I really believe in this case it's supposed to be a tabletop showpiece, with pen functionality--perhaps for signing important documents with some "important people" present. Or just as a "curiosity glass display case" object.

...each one features a slightly curved shape inspired by a traditional Mughal dagger, an insignia of power.

~ Bhakt:

Is the design similar to what are called “khanjar”?

Returning to this thread to enjoy the photos you kindly posted, I've wondered what is the basis for this design.

O.K. - yes they are quite elaborate and ornate and perhaps hideous to Western tastes.

But truthfully, they evoke a sense of opulence that the great Indian rulers where known for - according to my very limited knowledge.

I actually think they are quite novel and in keeping with that opulence.

As Tom Kellie suggested, I would like to know more about them. What is the basis for the design? I can only imagine they are fantastically heavy and perhaps totally unbalanced.

The step down would make it quite an uncomfortable writer I would have thought, especially for extended writing periods? Happy to be corrected though.

What a beautiful homage to my country and the era that was once known for its domination, persistence and undying love for his queen.

I urge you all to come visit taj mahal once in your lifetime. The intricacies seen at the mahal are one of a kind.

I would buy this in a heartbeat however I am missing couple of zeros in order to purchase this.

Let's see now, if you wrote 500 words a day for a year with one of these pens that would only be about $12.00 per word. Sounds reasonable.
