Santini Italia Libra Ambra ... Here It Is

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

my new Santini Italia Libra Ambra is now there ...

Size

The Libra is a quite big pen. It´s length is more than a Montblanc Meisterstück 146 but less than a Montblanc Meisterstück 149. If you know Delta pens then you will note that the Santini is also a "thick" pen.

Material

The Libra Ambra is made of acrylic and the color is a dark amber. That is often the color that you will get when you find amber on the coasts of the Baltic sea. Beautiful ... I think.

How to fill

The Santini Italia Libra Amber is a fountain pen. You cannot overtighten the knob as the piston mechanism is alike the mechanism a lot of Delta pens have.

Nib

The nib is a broad 18c gold nib in nib size 6. The nib is not supplied by other companies (Bock, Jowo, ...) but produced by Santini themselves. The nib writes very good and is one of the best nibs I've tried ever (the top position of my personal list is still owned by the nib of my Stipula Novecento ... but I think this reference will never be beaten).

Touch And Writing

The Libra feels very good and well-balanced. If you have smaller hands then the Libra might be too oversized for you. But as for me this is the right size ... I like thick pens.

The nib writes very well and you will have a wet fountain pen. Very nice. The writing samples are done using Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite.

Last Note

Santini is a small Italian company. But it is a very "personal" company. Within the box of the Libra there was sheet of paper with writing samples written with THIS pen. And so I'm aware that the pen was written the first time on November 7th.

I like this pen and I'm glad that you will find new Italian manufacturers like Santini or Leonardo after Delta or Omas have closed their doors.

Inky regards, Ingolf.

That is a gorgeous material and a beautiful pen. I enjoy your reviews, especially the photos, thank you!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Thank you so much for the review! It is a beautiful pen and I love that the nib is made by Santini.

Thank you very much for sharing this Santini pen with us; I have not seen much mentioned about these pens since they were introduced here a few years ago. I am enthralled by your depiction of the material; it looks so much nicer than my Conway Stewart Churchill which I ordered in amber & has always been less interesting than I had hoped. I have spent more time than I should looking @ this pen on their website & found it difficult to resist the desire to order same.............

To have two pens in similar materials seems like pure foolishness but your introduction to this pen has made me consider a stub nib & especially @ the price offered. Thank you again for sharing your pen!

I now am the proud owner of two Santini Libras. So far, I have only inked one, I can attest to the fact that it has a spectacular nib. In fact, it ranks as one of my best nibs ever. Only a few can match it, such as the Cross Peerless.

The bodies are spectacular. I have a blue and a red - I am using the blue right now.

I met the owner at the DC Pen Show. He was incredibly polite and forthcoming. Because he could not take credit cards, he actually gave me the pen and told me to pay him later, when I got home and could access his Paypal address. Of course I did so and appreciate him trusting me to do so.

I am very impressed and will soon try my other Libra! And perhaps buy another one, when funds permit...

Great review. I'm waiting for the verdict on the Libra model but with the Ebonite material.

Making their own nibs definitely adds to the appeal.

My zodiac sign!

Beautiful colors in that pen. Thank you for the mention of Baltic amber. I have bought jewelry made from Baltic amber.

What a gorgeous pen! I've been looking for the perfect tortoiseshell/amber-like pen, and this material could be a contender. The B nib looks like it leans near a BB too, that's a lot of tipping, which I like.
