Parker Sonnet 18K Nib Grade Identification

Recommended Posts

I bought a current model sonnet with an 18k supposedly broad nib. Came from a large, well known retailer so there is no question of authenticity.

The nib is a beautiful piece of work. It is marked "B" on the feed but looks for all the world like a broad or double broad stub.

In what way is a broad or BB distinguished from a stub?

The photo of the underside of the feed shows 'B' which would be the size of the nib. It should run wide on the newer Sonnets. Stub would be wide flat cut with rounded ends to make it easier to write with, Italic have sharp ends and if not held correctly will dig into the paper

Thank you for the replies.

The nib certainly looks very square at the end.

Here is a writing sample compared to 3 other broads. Regardless of the nib grade it is incredibly smooth an a bit of an ink beast.
