Pens With Guilloche Pattern

Actually now that I remember, there was this other Guilloche pattern pen that I found quite attractive: the Omas Paragon Arte Italiana Art Deco Guilloche in "pearl grey" resin (not the pearl grey celluloid). Unfortunately I don't have it any more.

That’s “pearl grey?” Also very nice, and thank you again.

Omas called the material "pearl grey cotton resin". It's not black, but dark grey with slight light grey/silver streaks, a bit similar to the pearl grey celluloid but not nearly the chatoyance/depth. It's hard to tell from the photo, but in person quite a striking pen. http://www.omas.com/creations-boutique/arte-italiana/the-paragon-art-deco-limited-edition-o09a0117/

The recent Leonardo Officina Italiana Momento Zero Grande pens with ebonite with Guilloche pattern look quite nice too. Personally I would have preferred it without the metal ring at the section end though.

The link to the OMAS picture gives a better view of the pattern. I’m trying to imagine it as a dark grey rather than black.

So now Im looking for a modern pen with a guilloche pattern, say, under $500. I like the pattern on the Aurora Mamba, but Im not crazy about the totally black pen (nib and clip as well as barrel and cap).

That's a shame, because the 2020 Limited Edition ("Black Link") Pilot Capless Vanishing Point is an all-black "stealth" version of the 2016 LE guilloche model (which had silver trim). I missed out on the 2016 LE, as I wasn't an active buyer in the fountain pen market in those couple of years, and am so happy to see the 2020 LE available at saner prices (that what some people are trying to flog the 2016 LE for on eBay, etc.) and being aesthetically more appealing as well.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

The Diplomat is a lovely pen and their nibs are very good. i have a steel nib-and it is excellent.

I would also add that the Cross Townsend is lovely too.

I ordered and received the 2020 Pilot LE Vanishing Point with the “Black Links” guilloche pattern as suggested by A Smug Dill. Overall I'm pleased with the pen, and although the all black trim and nib is not my ideal, I'm getting used to them. The guilloche on the barrel has exactly the feel I hoped it would have, and it sits comfortably in my hand ( no issues with the clip position, despite it being my first venture into VP pens). So far I've only used it as a convertor, but with the difficulty seeing how much ink is left in the convertor, I suspect it will be a cartridge pen for me. Thank you for the suggestion Smug Dill.

Sheaffer made these in the Targa lineup. The brown one shown sold some time ago, but I have the green and blue in my collection. The green is especially stunning.

There's also the "feather" finish, shown here in the ballpoint.

I received mine, too, but I haven't inked it up yet.

You could always replace the nib assembly with one that sports silver-coloured 18K gold nib. (Not sure about the gold-coloured ones, off the top of my head.) The 'replacement' or 'spare' units are available from US and European retailers, but strangely not from Japanese retailers.

Thank you for the suggestion Smug Dill.

No worries. I'm glad you like the pen!

Funny-before I bought the pen, I considered that the nib size was interchangeable for this pen-until you mentioned this as a solution to the nib color, I didn't realize that this is a solution to the nib color problem (if it turns out I really don't like the black nib. I'm being open minded and giving it some time for me to get used to the look). I've never handled any of the other VP models, so I have no basis for comparison, however it is a substantial and solid pen, weightier than I would have guessed, although it doesn't bother me.

would this be an example of guilloche?

I'm no expert, however, it does look as if it could be-as I understand it, it's not the pattern itself, but how the pattern is created that determines if it is guilloche.

That is more of a chased/engine turned pattern, much like what was found on early hard rubber pens. The guilloche patterns are more intricate, and often have a transparent lacquer over the pattern.

I forgot that I had a picture of the green guilloche Targa. For those of you who have never seen one:
