Pelikan M205 Translucent Blue Italic Nib Birthday Present





~ As a half dozen Pelikans settled into a nest on my writing desk in 2019, up from two before that, I'd supposed that there'd be no more Pelikans this year.



How wrong I was! Late this evening a package from overseas reached me with several birthday gifts from former students now working in the United States.



Although my 4 November birthday is a bit more than one week away, receiving gifts carefully selected by those who I've known well for years was a great pleasure.





Two 2019 novels (one by my friend, Jack McDevitt, and one by Donna Leon) and a bottle of Montblanc The Beatles Psychedelic Purple ink were in the package.



As if that weren't already more than enough, a bubble-wrapped package contained the outer box of a fountain pen.



It was a Pelikan M205 Translucent Blue Demonstrator with an Italic (I) nib in the original presentation box in superb condition.





I was gobsmacked, bowled over, flabbergasted and completely moved. Such a thoughtful gift for their old instructor showing their kind hearts.



Remarkably, not twelve hours before, I'd acquired a Sailor Shikioro Hisakata Uchimizu F nib, which is also a shade of translucent blue.





Inked with the gift Psychedelic Purple ink, the I nib writes crisply with extraordinary feedback, unlike almost any other nib on my writing desk.



A gift like this has more meaning because of the care the givers used in selecting something which they felt that I'd appreciate.



Working as a university instructor has its challenges, but it also is amply larded with blessings, many of them wholly unexpected.

Nice pen and nice students! I've had a blue transparent M200 for 15+ years, except it is far less transparent than yours; I have to hold it up to a bright light to see the interior.

I have an Amethyst, but I can see the guts better in yours. :thumbup:

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

The cheapest lessons are from those who learned expensive lessons. Ignorance is best for learning expensive lessons.

It is the older version, with the black ring above the cap, which in the newer is chromed. It is quite rare! Wonderful gift.

As I have no idea as to when this model was introduced, I was unable to find more background facts.

This pen is a moderately dark shade of blue which nonetheless readily allows light to pass through.

Yes, this pen has visible inner workings, despite the pen's moderately dark blue color.

What has delighted me is how well it writes.

Smooth, crisp, excellent ink flow, yet not excessive.

The older version, that you have (and that I have, because I've got the same and is one of my favorites, with one of the thinnest EF nibs that I've ever experienced by Pelikan) was introduced in 2009. The newer in 2016.

Without chravagni's kind assistance, I'd never have realized that I'd been given an older version.

The I nib is a real joy for writing. It's crisp with ideal ink flow.

Having such a fine writing tool with the added pleasure of receiving it from former students provides considerable happiness.

What a thoughtful gift, congrats! Both on the pen and those great students!

 

Does your M205 Italic nib write much thicker than M205 M or B? I am using more of my M205 Olivine these days. Mine has an F nib. Since I like the steel nib so much, I am thinking of getting another one that is slightly thicker. Between CI grind from M nib, or an old stock I nib, not sure what is the better choice.
