Up market or Luxury ... that is the question, just what constitute Luxury .... like ornate build with exotic material, or is it limited edition, or is it custom build ... ??? As of current , you can had them all. Hero made some so call luxury model but even then their price is still well outside of being luxury when compared to others and might be also the build ... Usually people are looking at exotic material like Celluloid or 915 Sterling , but these are not usually found in Chinese fountain pens, Celluloid Nitrate had been banned in China since the 80's and anything that require too much routine maintenance is considered not suitable for a day to day use tool ( which is what most fountain pen Mfr and fountain pen customer in China sees it ).

There are custom build fountain pen from individual brands , there are limited editions ( say the recent Wing Sung 601 with Sterling Silver trim ) , there are occasionally found pens that are made out of exotic material ( though not always expensive one ). If those are what you are looking for they are around.

As fa as gold nib are concerned , just a couple notch up market there is already there ...

Where can you find a 601 with sterling trim?

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

quite a few months ago already ; Wing Sung put out a limited edition of 601 total of the 601 with 925 solid sterling trim on the clutch ring and same solid 925 sterling Cap , legend engraved on the barrel and with a 14K gold nib , it was sold out AFAIK in less than 2 hours

Duke has some upper end fountain pens with gold nibs

esybuy sells a Duke pen with 14k gold nib for about $110

both Duke and Fuliwen sell elaborately ornate pens with 14k nibs for $400-600 (not my cup of tea, though)
