Diamine Inkvent Calendar

JulieParadise: Thanks very much for showing the wonderful colours. I am afraid that if I buy the set, I'll end up using them for the next 20 Decembers :D . This year I have only managed to finish two full bottles of 50ml, though I started a dozen... Very tempting. All my c/c pens are lined up for trying the colours. Any problems with difficulty cleaning or clogging?

:P Thank you! Yeah, those sheeners can feel somewhat sticky and therefore are not my most favourite inks, also because they are so dense that the colour becomes pretty hard to tell.

I might add a comparison between those four inks I mentioned. Pardon the rotated image, I only have my smartphone on hand at the moment.

Thank you so much! We are enjoying seeing your pictures so we don't have to open all our bottles every day. This calendar is a joy, as are your daily updates.

Much appreciated, JulieParadise. That's a good point, that when used for writing, the difference might not be that noticeable. I have about 20 bottles of ink, and no iron gall, no sheening ink, just normal usable black, blue, green, brown, orange, red etc (Diamine, Edelstein, Omas, Montegrappa, Pilot, KWZ, Waterman, Parker, MB). I have been tempted to buy some sheening ink just to try what's it like. Any sheening ink that is trouble-free that you would suggest? Many thanks!

To be honest: No. I will get rid of my sheening Diamine inks and rather suggest "normal" inks with a hint of sheen without explicitly being sheen monsters. There are some that are hassle free, like Diamine Majestic Blue and the likes, also some red, orange or coral colours like Diamine Coral. But that might be just personal preference.

I remember my daughter (11 years old) falling in love with Smoke on the Water so I filled it into the Kaweco Sport she used at school only to come home and showing me smear marks all over her hand, palm and forearm (she is left handed).

Naa, sheen looks nice but I find it rather impractical and prefer to not being bothered by its complications. ;)

No. 19 Gingerbread is a lovely light brown-ochre tone leaning yellow. If I recall correctly it should sit right in the middle of Diamine Warm Brown regarding the general tone & saturation and Sepia concerning the warmth.

The inks flows perfectly in the italicized broad nib in my Platinum 3776 Tortoise Celluloid.

Any sheening ink that is trouble-free that you would suggest? Many thanks!

The sheen from Sailor seiboku and souboku pigment inks can even survive a 60-minute soak in a bath of water, and will not smear or be rubbed off in the normal course of things. They aren't super-sheening, so if you want to see sheen in your writing, use a wet-flowing pen on non-absorbent paper. As far as I'm concerned, they're pretty trouble-free inks, if you put them in pens that are not apt to dry out or let ink evaporate from the feed and reservoir when properly capped; they're safe to use with steel nibs as well as gold nibs.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

The sheen from Sailor seiboku and souboku pigment inks [...]

Yeah, thank you! I did not consider these sheenings inks per se but they do sheen indeed. Sou Boku is an amazing ink, beautiful, trouble free, flowing even in flex nibs and, being a pigment ink, pretty much the only blue black I have had so far which is lightfast. I like this particular colour and find it in inks such as Lamy Blue Black or Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite, Cross Blue Black etc. but all of these fade badly. Sou Boku doesn't, without feeling sticky like sheen monsters tend to do. A favourite!

JulieParadise: thank you very much for your honest opinion. I keep my pens very clean, many are not c/c fillers so there I won't risk. I do find that some of my normal inks have a tiny bit of sheening, like the Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku. When a pen is wet enough, it shows some. I have a Lamy Joy 1.5 Stub which officially doesn't count in my collection, maybe I will buy just one small bottle of sheening ink to run through that pen :-)) Or perhaps a brush pen, the kind for water colour, to try it? Might be fun to draw with? The colours do look very nice from what you showed.

Smug and JulieParadise,

Deep rei to both of you. I have been afraid to use Soubouku and Seiboku because I thought they might prove troublesome to clean out. I trust if they were one of you would have mentioned it. I will order some next time I place a pen and/or ink order.

Gold Star! Gold Star is the eighth ink in Diamine's Inkvent Calendar and it's a shimmery glittery amazingly beautiful goldenyelloworange. A lot more cheery than Diamine Golden Sands the base colour reminds me of Rohrer & Klingner Helianthus as it ranges between warm & rich yellow and deep orange. Since my three Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with FA nibs all are pretty wet writers I did not hesitate to put this glitter ink in these easily cleanable cartridge/converter pens.

Such a rich gorgeous amber colour. Have included this in my top 12 for 2019. Love what you’re doing here.

Day 20 gives us Midnight Hour, a rich and deep dark sheeny blue black, a beautiful ink that almost looks black in writing. Today I filled my OMAS Dama in grey celluloid with a wet fine nib. Papers are a Rhodia Webnotebook A5 dotted, Stálogy 365 in 5x5 mm grid and blank Tomoe River paper.

Fire Embers is the 21rst ink in Diamine's Inkvent Calendar, a fiery red orange that leans towards a warm burnt orange tone. I really like this one and sure am searching for a substitute -- nope, it is not Diamine 150th Anniversary Blood Orange, which I bought today hoping it would be. Any suggestions? Graf von Faber-Castell Burned Orange seems close, we'll see ...

Pens are a Pilot Parallel Pen 2.4 mm and a Sailor Pro Gear Orange with a Naginata Fude De Mannen specialty nib #notmypen

Papers are blank Tomoe River, dotted Rhodia Webnotebook offwhite/creamy paper, Stálogy 365 5x5 mm grid.

Tonight was Solstice, in German Wintersonnenwende, so the name Diamine gave its black ink with greenish shimmer is perfect. I put this one into a Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with an FA nib. Papers are Rhodia Webnotebook Dot A5 (offwhite paper) and Stálogy 365 A6 5x5 grid.

Sailor Shikiori (né Jentle) irori, perhaps? That looks slightly less orange, although there is definitely an orange component.

Day 24 is Heiligabend in Germany, in a way THE actual Christmas Day and not just an eve, a day before, as in England and elsewhere. Tonight when it gets dark most families unpack their presents and in many families this continues the next two day which are official holidays in Germany. Heiligabend is kind of a holiday, most shops close around 13/14:00.

fpn_1577200511__2019_12_24_diamine_inkve

Diamine gives us a Purple Bow, a deep and rich purple they call a standard ink but, as you can see, it does have a strong sheen; not monstrous, but noticeable.

fpn_1577200891__2019_12_24_diamine_inkve

I compared it to Inkvent Calendar's no. 10 Winter Miracle, a sheeny shimmery ink: Purple Bow is more bluish whereas Winter Miracle leans towards red.

Thanks for doing all the photos of these. Some of them really look nice -- but the set is a little pricy. And truthfully, a few years ago I asked for the Diamine Flower Collection for Christmas, and I still haven't tried a couple of the inks...

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
