A Stunning Double Pointed F Flex + Needlepoint Tu Swan Nib

Hi,

last week a stunning Swan #2 tuned up nib arrived on a Swan L212/60 (late 1930s).

It has a double pointed tipping: downside a F with good flex and on the top a real needlepoint!

The L212 isn't restored yet, so I took a 6260 for a writing sample on A5 paper with 5mm squares:

Some details of the nib and tipping:

I haven't seen such a nib before, it seems to be a lucky find...

WOW! Nice find.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Hi,

I just took a closer look at the lines and measured some of them (mikroscope):

The needlepoint side gives typically 0.16 mm horizontal as vertical;

The F side makes 0.40 mm verticals and 0.38 mm horizontal lines.

On the fly, here one of the images of a needlepoint line on Clairefontaine paper:

Very interesting nib. Did mabie todd have factory tuned double sided nibs in the past? (Like waterman duo-point #4 nibs)

This one seems original, made by Mabie Todd in the 1930s...

Maybe Steven Hull writes something about it in his new Swan book, mine is in the mail now...

Parker made some, too.
