Hello Guys, I Started A Small Fountain Pen Company In S.korea! (Eureka)

Hello Guys, you may or may not have heard about me.

I am a fan of fountainpen writing. It began as a hobby back in my middle school years.

I started grinding nibs in high school. and small tweaks in university.

during my military service in South Korea, I designed fountain pens and machines required to make it.

after military service, I started making all the machines required to make fountain pens.

after two years of struggle, here i am.

i really admired small scale fountainpen craftsmen around the world, such as Nakaya, Namiki, Ranga, etc...

But I decided to take one step further...

I began with ebonite barrel, cap, grip parts.

I first began with Indian import ebonite material. but i had some issues with quality(contaminants, large pores, discoloration)

then i switched to Japanese ebonite supplyer. I am very satisfied with the quality of the material.

All my ebonite parts are made with Japanese import ebonite material.

In the course of 2 years, and hundreds of prototypes, I have literally perfected two types of designs:

1)v8.3 Symmetry

2)v8.2 Asymmetry

during this, i decided to make ebonite feeds as well, which is a real challenge (even for big manufacturers)

after painstaking work and research, I succeeded in making ebonite feed that functions like a plastic feed, although it is made from ebonite.

what i mean by that is, I machined ebonite feed, with a plastic feed design, which is very complex and difficult to do in ebonite.

internally, my ebonite feed has 5 turns of air / inkflow (compared to aurora ebonite feed, 1 turn)

this was done to make it more stable against overflow.

after that, i decided to make nib from scratch. no machines, no designs.

this was very difficult to do, with little resource and information.

but after painstaking work and research, I came up with my own manufacturing machines and process, that guarantees super high precision and quality.

at first, I started selling in South Korea, only.

but i wanted to share with the world, what i have created.

here are some of the pictures.

this is the nib, made from argentium silver 935.

it's got good flexibility, like a spring.

also, the slit is nearly always super high precision as can be seen below

This is my home built ebonite feed (left)

you can see the 5 turns of ink/air flow, like a modern plastic feed (with ebonite feed)

it is very very intricately machined.

here are Two of my fountainpen designes:

Eureka V8.3 Symmetry

it shares 1 thread with both cap and barrel, to increase cap lip thickness(strong design) and reduce the bump between grip and barrel.

there is near 0 slop between threads, so very very high precision and high concentricity between parts.

the barrel will not unfasten when opening and closing the cap.

thread is double start

V8.2 Asymmetry

this design is even bigger than 149.

the cap is postable very stably(matching angled taper fit)

thread tripple thread.

also, this is the link to my newly born store: (i will remove this if there is a problem, please let me know)

this is a simple video review i made:

currently, i have mastered the technique of Perfect Urushi coating.

soon, i will be done with my cleanroom for urushi coating, and also sell products with urushi coating.

also, i and developing my own "!" shaped gold plated Clip. this my take a while.

thank you guys for your attention.

I hope I can deliver a new kind of products, at very reasonable price.

thank you!

Considering the hard work that was obviously put into designing this ebonite feed, what is the advantage of making it from ebonite as opposed to plastic?

Regarding filling systems: the entire pen being made of ebonite, I assume it can be used as an eye-dropper?

post moved to Fountain Pen Reviews section.

please ignore this.

thanks

if you have questions though, post below.

What beautiful fountain pens I wish you much success in your work. :)

I appreciate the artisan work and that people continue to be interested in these beautiful writing instruments and hopefully the fountain pens are never extinguished, the fountain pens are the things that have given me the most pleasure in life. When they are available I hope to buy some.

His prices are pretty outrageously reasonable and communication is great.

I'm ordering one clipless model this week and as soon as his machine for manufacturing the clips is done, I'm ordering another with a clip.

Looks good, when are you likely to be taking orders again?

He's taking orders now. I was quoted as ~2 months current turnaround

The website is saying "Reservation Closed".

I've sent him an e-mail to find out :)

There's a lot of thought that goes into these. The designs of the Symmetry and Asymmetry look very good.

I would be very interested in both versions especially if they were shorter in length and more EDC friendly since they may be too long for taking with me easily on the go...

..., but I will say that the longer length unposted with ebonite does balance well and I do understand why you may have made them that length and is something I would even consider if the pens came with a clip as long as it doesn't scratch what it clips to.

My interest would grow depending on the amount of turns in takes to uncap/cap the pen. I prefer 1 1/2 or less, but most come with 1 3/4 turns which I don't mind. 2 turns is kind of the max I tolerate. Anymore and I get a little iffy.

I remember falling in love with the Ranga Davenport, but it took 3 turns to uncap and Peyton Street Pens said they didn't have anymore that uncapped/capped with less turns so I returned it and gave up on that pen I loved. I do too much jotting, uncapping, and capping for so many turns.

Besides that, I'm keeping an eye on this business. I love ebonite pens and ebonite feeds. I'm looking forward to hearing more about these pens.

Wow !

There are some machining / fitting tricks that would help with alignment ..

You dont need super fitting threads ..

All you need is a shoulder for the parts to screw onto ..

If you are using automatic machines , then it would be easy to set the depth etc and just spit out parts ..

The threads would require less precise tolerance .

It's good to see some one take such care , but time is money and there are easier ways to achieve alignment .

Nice looking pens ..
