You Know You've Exceeded The Fountain Pen Limit When....

Some LeCreuset pans can cost as much as a Edison Beaumont, Franklin Christoph Model 19, Visconti van Gogh

or a MB Starwalker. Truly they are beautiful and will last a lifetime. Oh, I meant the pens (LOL) My husband use

to tell his friends 'happy wife-happy life.' Pakman's pen collection is outstanding; and his wife's cookware is just

as eye catching!! I can only imagine the wonderful meals cooked in her LeCreuset.

P.S. I keep wrestling with the idea of a pen limit. I'm now at about 290. and trying to put a halt

on this 'rabbit-hole' hobby.

I know my mother has ordered her husband to sell an oldtimer car/motorcycle when he buys another, but that has to do with the fact that they already built a garage the size of a family home plus rented space at a neigbouring farm. Full is full.

Pens should be stored much easier... but well, it probably depends on the number. :D

That sounds remarkably like my brother-in-law and his wife and the Lotus he was "restoring". His wife told him that he wasn't allowed to call it a "car" because it had been on blocks in the garage pretty much since they first moved back to the East Coast (and they sold the house in Redding Ridge about 5 years ago). He was only allowed to call it a "toy"....

You have at least 710 to go before you have to even consider the question.

When you start out with a pen rest, then need a pen tray, then need a pen cup, then buy a 20 pen case, then a 50 pen case, then a lawyers case, then two lawyers cases with a shelf dedicated to ink, now you have a full pen tray on your desk and two full pen cups, two full lawyers cases with ink bottles on top of one and the 50 pen case on top of the other and a shelf full of journals...

When more than a quarter of the space under the bed in the guest bedroom is stuffed full of empty retail/gift boxes in which one's fountain pens arrived, and that's not counting what was damaged in transit or just too flimsy or worthless to keep (e.g. for Sailor HiAce Neo and PenBBS 494 pens). Not that all of one pens came supplied in retail/gift boxes, either.

And another good part of that space is taken up by >60 unopened bottles of ink...

That's the funniest thing I've heard all week! :lticaptd: Thank you very much!

Well, I've just placed another order with Cult Pens, but alas held off buying more Pelikan pens in spite of effectively 19% discount off already low regular prices. Just four spare Pelikan M20x nibs in F, M and B intended for trying my hand at regrinding them into broad-edged nibs...

Oh, and another four or five bottles of ink. Gotta make the free international shipping threshold, ya know. *nods sagely*

Well, I guess that's the advantage of mostly buying vintage pens -- the boxes are long gone, and if the box and paperwork *are* still around it will just add to to the cost, because then all the c-worders will be bidding the prices up. And that means I'm not, and that's better for MY bottom line....

That's another reason why I don't look at buying vintage pens at all. I wouldn't care how popular, common and/or well-loved a P*****-branded model dating back to the Fifties was everyman's writing instrument in 'the West', unless it's NOS or in mint condition with retail box and papers intact because that makes them only-600-in-the-world-today rare. But I "can't" and have no real desire to outbid those who go into the chase with some sentimental longing for the brand that is a long way in its decline in the market.

And that means I'm not, and that's better for MY bottom line….

In my case, better for controlling the sheer number of pens I own (and the amount of space under the guest bed) but don't actually use.
