Wing Sung 601 Nib Vs Wing Sung 601 A Nib

So the 601 comes with the tubular hooded nib and the 601A comes with the big Triumph style nib.

I have read lots of threads here and on google reviewing both pens but have not found a consensus as to whether one nib is more likely to be smooth than the other.

Is it just a (bleep) shoot?

So far I have had good luck with Wing Sung nibs, but some people reported the nibs on both models could be scratchy. (I am looking for a somewhat dry XF or F, if that matters.)

Thoughts appreciated. Thanks

I have two of each. None are scratchy, BUT the wraparound nib on the 601A tends to seep from the join as you write and deposits ink on your fingers.

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thanks for reply. I had read about the seepage from someone else. Or maybe you had made an earlier post? Something to think about for sure.

You're welcome. It's also possible, because of the way the conical nib is joined to the section, that it's not actual seepage but residue from the dip-fill that doesn't get completely wiped off.

They're inexpensive enough to try just for fun.

I have the 601 demonstrator (hooded nib) with the newer draw system rather than the sac, I think in F, and while I love this pen to death - especially how easily it fills and how much ink it holds - a dry writer it is not. It does make a nice fine line, though.

Had both and none of them are really dry as for the seeping around the 601A nib its nothing new .. A little silicine grease applied to the joint line or better still at moment of screwing in that nib do the trick ... old days we will use just bee wax or pine resin

I have three of the 601As and they did leak a little, until I put some silicone grease around the threads and screw the nib on. That stops the leak cold. I've found the nib isn't really on that well and will easily screw off.

That said, the 601As are my favorite EDC pen that I take every day to work with me. They're not buttery smooth, but I don't need that for scribbling on cheap copy paper or writing on cardboard or crates. They have a solid feel, write every time, and actually look sharp and professional.

Thanks. I ordered one. Decided to go with the large triumph style nib. I always liked that look.

What color? (I have a black, and a VERY dark green).

HI

I just got my 601A today and so of course I have already inked it up and taken it out for a spin using it to grade some student papers. I really like this pen.

Mine has a pearly clear jewel on the cap and no jewel on the barrel, so I guess mine is not one of the new ones. No big deal. I am pleased to report the nib is pretty smooth. There is clearly some feed back but certainly no snagging or cutting. I think it is pleasant to work with and so I am happy.

The nib is clearly a Fine point and with Pelikan Blue Black ink it actually leans toward the XF, which is just what I wanted, so I have no complaint.

I got mine in Gray.

I have to say this is a nice pen and I have paid ten times as much and gotten a pen with an outright bad nib, so I am pleased.

Thanks all for responses.
