Anyone Else Feel Like This When It Comes To Their Most Beloved Pen?

My husband keeps asking me when I'm going to start selling the pens I don't really use, and I always sort of mutter under my breath... "Eventually...."

I have had to be circumspect about this. Saying "My Precioussss!" like that hurt my throat somewhat but it was huddling in the corner while doing it that was the straw that broke the came's back.

I mostly feel like that about inks, then about nibs and about a couple of pens: m205 in blue (strangely not about the clear one, which was my expectation) and Parker 75 Milleraies, in spite of being tiny (well mostly thin), in need of polishing and the cap having a blank space, I suppose for engraving purposes.

Personally, I don't believe in (the existence of) a pen that cannot be displaced, replaced, or 'bettered' or 'bested' by throwing more money at striving for 'the grail' or 'the ultimate'. Whatever possession is precious to me now is only 'best' among what I have, and not among the infinitely greater scope of what I don't have even against which to make a proper comparison.

So, no. I love my Pilot 'Hannya Shingyo', as well as my first (of three) Rotring Initial fountain pen — which made me fall 'in love with' using fountain pens in spite of only having ever only seen my mother (from whom I'm estranged) use one regularly in my first quarter of a century on this planet — but I don't feel they're 'precious' in the sense that they cannot be replaced or surpassed, but only that I haven't the means or inclination to acquire and experiment with enough to displace them.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

SpectTP (and ISW Kaputnik, who also mentioned this image): Ha! I love this image!!! Would you be okay if I someday create a wee cartoon of this? I would give you both credit, of course.

LOL.. feel free to use the idea with or without citation. your drawing is very good and I do like your original depiction.

It's only a pen.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Well, I'm an an animation professional, and a big part of that job is expressing one's inner life in funny little drawings.

That said, I was a triceratops back in the Eighties.

Fine with me. No credit needed for an idle thought. B)

So you're saying that besides drawing the cels, you were also working as a voice actor? :D

Parker 51 in midnight blue bought in 1970. Still the one.

Based on Debbie's cartoon and other's enthusiasm I bought a Pilot 823 with a medium nib last week, and I must say, it doesn't disappoint. Right out of the box it's my best writer. I can find no fault in the nib whatsoever, it's perfectly smooth with just the tiniest perceptible amount of feedback. I'm not to the point of calling it "beloved" quite yet, but I can see myself getting there. Thanks, DebbieOhi, I may commission a cartoon from you!

I'm so glad you are happy with your Pilot 823, markofp! It's still my favourite writing pen, and I just refilled it this morning with some more Iroshizuku Kon Peki.
