Pelikan 100N Magnum Emege Red Tortoise

This is a fantastic find, @pmn !

Thanks for your good will with the caliper! Your measurements will be vey valuable.

The nib shown is an oversized 100 nib (w. triangle imprint), isn’t it?

The feed has 100 geometry, but 100N diameter (0.5mm wider).

The collar is also of 100 geometry, but of 100N diameter. It reminds me of post-WWII 100N collars (1952-54).

The ebonite section is similar to that of the 100N, but of unique geometry and dimensions, which are more robust, and therefore less crack prone than those of (pre -WWII) 100N.

It makes all the three parts unique to Magnum, and the spare parts practically unavailable. I wonder how Monteiro Guimarães & Filho, Ltda. negotiated spare parts supply with GW, if they conditioned special models and exclusive warranty repairs with them.

This may also explain why broken nibs, feeds and collars are being nowadays replaced with 100N parts - which are the closest ones available, post MG era.

By the way, when did EmeGê get out of business, or at least out of this market niche?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and good will.

Hi,

Picked up a calliper at the chinese shop and here is what it measured ( give or take a couple of tenths)

It cost less than a coffe so... I wouldn't go into production with this 😉

Remember the feeder unit fits in the 100N with stepped section shown in the previous picture.

I don't know when MG when out of business, surely last century, don't know which decade. But thinking of it, never saw 400s marked emegê.

Cheers,

Thanks for the measuring and drawing, @pmn. The collar somewhat loosely resembles the post-ww2 100N collar, although some dimensions may differ:

Hi,

Still on this,

I very much like this picture by our fellow member Christof, an incontournable reference on Pelikans.

Sure he doesn't mind me reposting it.

So do I.

Yet, in terms of dating, it is somewhat misguiding, as the item “100N 1952” seems misrepresented because of the “fir-tree-pattern nib”, for which there is no known evidence of having been produced before the end of 1954.

🙂
