Harbor Freight Wooden Tool Box For Pen Storage

So I was in the local Harbor Freight buying a couple of things when I came upon an 8-drawer wooden tool chest for something like $70. It has felt-lined drawers plus a top section as well. I've been using wooden cigar boxes, but I'm tempted to go back and get one. It likely looks better than it really is, but I'm sure it would hold up to pen storage. You can check out their website and look for 8 drawer wooden tool chest to see what it looks like. HTH.

Yes, they were on sale a couple of years ago for around $35 and a lot of us bought one. I think you'd enjoy it.

I had one but outgrew it. I think I was able to get it to hold 124 pens plus have room for ink storage amongst other things. Great chest for the purpose of housing pens, especially if you can get in on sale.

Well, if anyone wants to buy one already kitted-out with felt-covered foam ridges and space for ink bottles, come up to the Toronto Pen Show (Scriptus) on October 27th. My husband and I are sharing 3 tables and he will have this box and many others for sale.

I bought this same tool chest to store my collection and it did its job well. I didn't realize when I made this purchase that my wife had just bought a very similar product made by H. Gerstner & Sons for a Father's Day gift. I have nothing against the Harbor Freight case but the Gerstner & Sons chest is a different level of quality (and price, I think she bought mine on a special sale, but still pricey and more than I realized she spent until just checking the website).

I had the Harbor Freight case just long enough to not be able to return it, so it now sits under my desk. Maybe I can justify expanding my collection so this chest doesn't sit empty.

Got something similar a number of years ago. Pretty sure it came "though" Costco.

any pictures of the top part of the Harbor Freight chest with ink? It doesn't look too deep to hold tall bottles of ink like the Noodlers bottles.

Same for the Gestner chest...if there are any pix available, it would be great for reference.

Thanks!

The top of the chest should hold bottles. I just walked over to mine (which is full of safety and straight razors), and put in a bottle of Monteverde Tanzanite ink (30ml). The top if it was just at or below the lip of the chest, which gives it another 1/2" of clearance or so in the lid.

It likely won't hold anything taller than 2 1/2 inches, though that's not really a problem nowadays.

I put in a bottle of Waterman (50ml), as well as a vintage Skrip bottle, and the lid closed with no issues.

If it were me, I'd just put the really tall bottles on a shelf.
