Help Id Parker Duofold Set

Recommended Posts

Grandfather passed away and left me with a few pens, some of which are valuable. From my research, I guessing that I have a Parker Duofold Centennial Big Red Fountain Pen and Mechanical Pencil set. I took it to a Pen store and he said the top of the pens are different than traditional Duofolds, and it doesnt have the big Parker Duofold stamped into the side, however Parker is very faintly visible towards bottom of FP cap). Can anyone help me ID this set and provide some more information?post-153618-0-18950400-1566915436_thumb.jpegpost-153618-0-84206800-1566915487_thumb.jpegpost-153618-0-85755300-1566915507_thumb.jpegpost-153618-0-84724200-1566915603_thumb.jpegpost-153618-0-23503400-1566915669_thumb.jpegpost-153618-0-07525800-1566915680_thumb.jpegpost-153618-0-37785200-1566915806_thumb.jpeg

Looks just like my Parker Centenial Duofold set. Modern pen less than 30 years old.

Edited to correct age of manufacture

I've found this on Ebay. Not sure if this is an accurate price, or even the same set I have. Looks to be the same though but I know there can be minor differences that effect value. post-153618-0-19975600-1566923756_thumb.png

From Parker Pens Penography web page https://parkerpens.net/centennial.html

By September of 1990 Parker started advertising a Centennial fountain pen and mechanical pencil set in Orange as a Special Edition. The fountain pens had a crown with the pendulum pattern. It was offered in a cherrywood box. 1 000 un-numbered sets were initially produced but the design became so popular that Parker continued to make them for several years, adding an International sized fountain pen, ball pen and a roller ball to the line in 1991. In 1993 it was still referred to as a Special Edition, but from 1994 it was part of the regular line.

So 29 or less years old depending on when it was manufactured and sold. Need to check Ebay completed sales for real price. But, that said, if it was my Grandfathers pen I would keep it and use it as a keepsake.

if it is unnumbered, how would I be able to tell? Where would the number be located?

When trying to estimate value from Ebay, you need to look for pens that have been sold. Some sellers slap Buy it Now prices that are far too high, and the pen sits there unsold. Im not saying that specific price is too high, I dont know, but its not a reliable way to gauge price.

The same goes for reliable information, there are a lot of sellers on Ebay that dont really know what theyre talking about. Unfortunately its hard to distinguish between those sellers, and the ones who are knowledgeable.

Update: The set is not numbered, which puts it in the first 1000 released special edition pieces, thus making this set a "Limited" Special Edition set.
