Beautiful material, and it sets off the cap band nicely.

Congratulation on that very special pen!

Apologies for the multiple posts-the submit button was behaving strangely this am.  I refreshed the thread to see if each of them posted, but none showed up in the thread each time. Sufficient unto the day, is the evil thereof.

Yesterday's arrival: A Momento Magico in Jonathon Brooks' Black Cherry Koi. It has a steel nib - a B ground to cursive italic. I regard the Leonardo-Brooks collaboration as a treasured gift to the fountain pen community.

I am sure the names assigned to the materials used in making pens are decided by marketing experts. They aim to generate positive associations between the pens up for sale and other things which are valued in one way or another. Physical resemblance of the pen to the named thing is sometimes close and sometimes not.

For example, Leonardo's Momento Zero "Mango" has a coloration somewhat like that of a mango, a very delicious tropical fruit. And I am sure naming the pen "Mango" is better for sales than if it were name "Carrot Soup," for example. Even though the coloration may be closer to that of carrot soup.

In fact, the color is even closer to that of cabbage borscht.

Maybe a positive name for the Eastern European market. I wonder ...

Okay. Now back to our regular programming.

My newest Leonardo addition:

Momento Magico Black Cherry Koi SE with architect nib (B)

Very pretty material with subtle golden powder swirls. The architect nib is done very well but I still need to get used to that specific type of grind.

My Leonardo MZ Grande in Jonathon Brooks' Mother of Pearl arrived, and I am ... not disappointed. (Practicing understatement at which I am not very good.)

There are things that make me feel happy after an hard working day, these are my 2 custom Leonardo in Arco celluloid, the Arco Green has been hand turned on the lathe by Ciro making this pen even more exclusive.

The last three were blue, because I forgot to post them with their siblings. 😢

Well, this might be slightly premature, since another Leonardo is en route and scheduled to arrive in 3 days. On the other hand, it seems there is always one or more Leonardos en route to me. I think the syndrome should be called the LAST Pen (Leonardo Acquisition Syndrome Trouble Pen).

David

What a family. A dream of many collectors, myself include.Leonardo is producing an amazing pens in so many colours.Thank you for showing your pens and please keep posting photos of your new acquisitions.

My Leonardo with a #8 nib.  Bock doesn't make a #8 gold stub, AFAIK, so I had to have a B custom ground. Dan Smith did a splended job grinding it to a crisp cursive italic.

IMG_3497.jpeg.858c275886f983e83e1f55a2e5136ba4.jpeg

This MZ Grande is in "Dark Hawai'i resin. I thought a side-by-side of a MZ in Hawai'i and the MZ Grande in Dark Hawai'i would be interesting, as would a comparison the the #6 and #8 nibs. (The #6 nib is steel, not gold.)

I like the #8 nib a lot, but I'm not sure I like it better than the #6 14kt nib, and it does cost significantly more.

Happy writing!

Lovely side-by-side, @dms525. The #8 nibs look impressive 🤩.

I ended up springing for the Ritrovata and am patiently awaiting that. I keep dithering on if I should ask for a different nib--I ordered the stub, but I don't actually use stubs that often. I do have lots of #6 JoWo nibs though, so for now I'm telling myself I can just swap in a different size when I don't feel like a stub.

Thanks, Jaime!

i was sorely tempted by the Ritrovata. I love that brown celluloid. Enjoy yours!

I do use stubs and italic nibs almost exclusively. I have one Leonardo with a 14 kt F nib. It's a very special one in OMAS burl wood celluloid. I recently did buy one Leonardo with a steel F nib. It's just okay. I swapped it for a 14Kt custom-ground italic JoWo nib I had on hand. It will get a lot more love.
