I have a pilot metropolitan with a 1.0mm stub nib. The line variation is very, very subtle. I wouldn't think that a 1.0 & 1.1mm Stub there would be such a dramatic difference? I wonder what a 1.3mm writing sample would look like?

Japanese nibs tend to be much finer than European.

Just to thank you all for posting your beautiful Leonardos, and @Michael R.for starting this thread.! Thank you, too,  @Vicaryfor conversation about these beauties.

There were so very many choices of material to consider. Ultimately, I knew I had to have the Memento Grade in Sand. The material has that classic Italian depth to it, and does remind me a bit of a Stipula Duetto I once had. But I love this Leonardo ever so much more! Based on many comments about the steel stub, I went with a 1.1mm. It's sweet. I may try the gold version at some point. More to be revealed as I write along. Truly, I haven't loved a pen so much in a long time.

Cheers,

Julie

Hello, what size stub are you using in your photo, a 1.5mm? Thanks.

It's 1.1mm.

I received the Leonardo Cuspide Arco Brown end of October but didn't manage to take a photo until now. I posted some photos in the Arco thread. Had to sell a few pens for it, but in the end I am quite happy with it.

Than it is just enough to give character to your writings. It could be used as an everyday writer, yes? It is what I am looking for. Got to  Love the Leonardo branding. A lot of bang for your buck with the ebonite feeds and quality nibs.

1.1mm is the widest that I would use for everyday writing. I have had most of my 1.3mm gold Leonardo nibs custom ground to 0.75 or 0.8 mm. I have had one left wide but ground to be crisper for making initial majuscules in calligraphy documents.

I agree that the Leonardo pens are fantastic bargains, particularly the ones with steel nibs.

Well I did it, I pulled the trigger on a Leonardo Momento Zero Grande Fountain Pen in Sand Acrylic with Rhodium Trim × 1.1mm stub. I was looking for a FP that would give my writing's a bit of personality. Thank you for providing the writing sample.

The sand material is really lovely, in a subtle way. I suspect it is the same material as one of the Cuspides, just cut at a different angle. I am sure you will be very happy with your choice, but do let us know your impressions.

In the interest to add to this body of Leonardo photos, here's mine:

A Sorrento Blue with that lovely gold trims.

I have upgraded the steel nib with a vintage 14K nib that writes in Fine and is capable of some nice line variations.

So now this Leonardo has a nib which predates it by probably about a century or so.

looks really nice, for a moment it almost looked like an Omas Paragon in blue celluloid...

Did you manage to fit the nib with the Leonardo feed, or did you use a different feed?

Did you just pull it out for the swap?

@penwash: A very nice setup! It’s not so easy to find a a vintage nib of this size. Congratulations!

Thank you for acknowledging that. Most people think that I just somehow have vintage 14K nibs of various sizes lying around. It is true that I have been restoring vintage pens for long time now, but it is still difficult to find a *good* vintage nib that size.

Indeed it is. As I use this pen to take meeting notes today, I'm enjoying it a lot.

I have only 3 vintage 14K nibs around this size and this one happens to fit the feed very nicely. Otherwise I'd have to dig into my collection of feeds to find one that works, and that, while doable, it  would not be a fun time.

New pen day! I resisted buying a MZG PM Stromboli for months, but then I was overcome by temptation. As Oscar Wilde said, it's the one thing I am unable to resist.

Anyway, this particular pen came fitted with the best gold stub I have gotten on a Leonardo. it's pretty much perfect for my everyday italic handwriting right out of the box.

I have it inked with Papier-Plume Bayou Nights, which I like quite a lot.

My Leonardo Officina Momento Grand 'Sand' Stub 1.1mm. Just received this yesterday, and boy it certainly is a juicy writer.  🙂

Congratulations! That is a beautiful pen. I have one with the same nib.

Is the nib too wet for your purposes? Mine was on the dry side. In fact, I found Leonardo inks (which are rather dry, in my experience) too dry for it. I ended up inking mine with  Iroshizuku Tsukushi with excellent results.

Happy writing!
