Oh yes! Very nice variation. I have not seen such deep blue and green yet. But I guess every pen is very unique in its own way.

I'm glad I did not have to choose one from a selection ;-)

Cheers

Just found this thread and read the whole thing! Magnificent pics throughout and thank you to all who posted.

I read something that concerned me though: certain colors of the Momento Zero Grande are being discontinued with the move to the new piston filler design??

I am saving my pennies for a Momento Zero Grande in Copper GT and this has me worried I may never get one. Does anyone know for sure which colors are going away? I will accelerate my plans to acquire if I know for sure it isn't going to be around long.

I'm already seeing it out of stock many places, another red flag...

I believe the "old" colors that are being continued in 2020 are Sand and Dark Hawaii. Of course there are new colors also. The Copper was discontinued, I believe, but I have the impression that some dealers still have stock. You just have to look around and ask.

Good luck! The Copper does look very attractive.

Thanks for the information. It's a hard choice for me between the Caraibi and the Copper. I have a lot of blue pens, and fewer brown ones, so I'm leaning towards the Copper with gold trim. It is a special order or just "sold out" everywhere I've looked so far. I guess if I really want one, I better place an order now and hope somebody can still get one from Leonardo. I can figure out how to pay for it later, I guess...

First world problems. Like I need any more pens...sigh.

I just sent you a PM with a source for the MZG Copper.

Very nice photos, Michael R.! The Positano is still one of my favorite Leonardo materials, blue or otherwise. In fact, I like the material so much I have a Santini pen in a very similar resin and had a Pelikan M600 customized with similar material Montegrappa used in their Modigliani limited edition. Could they all be the same material in fact?

Primary Manipulation by Jonathan Brooks

...doesn't it sound like a work of fiction?

Cheers

Michael

great pictures everyone!

If we ask Jonathon, I have a feeling that primary manipulation is a technical term he uses when preparing his resin mixes...

something that describes the fact that the mixing technique (manipulation) which allow him to obtain such incredibly sharp colour mixes acts on the basics of the process.

(I may of course be wrong).

You may or may not like the result, certainly it does yield rather stunningly different colour mixes than seen on other pens.

Here is something slightly different.

It's not an off topic though as this pen is made by Leonardo.

This is a FP.it 5000, which celebrates this year the reached number of 5000 fountainpen.it members (fountaipen.it being perhaps the best know Italian FP forum).

Each member has rights to order one or more of these pens, and the pens are manufactured by Leonardo Officina. The pens suffered somewhat of the Covid lock down, so although they were ordered mostly in February delivery took place staring late July and a few are still undelivered to some members.

My version is in blue marbled resin, other available colours included black, horn, black-orange (all colours that remind me of previous Delta pens).

The pen is a simple converter filler, the design is also simple with some reminiscences to the past.
I find it extremely comfortable also in view of a more ordinarily shaped section. It is very slightly bigger and a fraction lighter that a Standard Momento Zero. The nib is a standard screw in Jowo #6 nib, feed and collar. It's a nice writer, perhaps the nib does not show the same springiness of the Momento Zero, but it feels very comfortable in the hand and I have it in use right now already since a while.

There may be more to it, but I'm pretty sure he said it was just a name. The sharp colors are a result of him having worked with the resins enough to know when they are just about to set and then swirling them. If you do it too soon or too vigorously, they just mix instead of switrl (think red + blue = purple, instead of red with blue swirls). I can ask him the next time I talk with him to see if there is a backstory.

yes, that's what I mean, it's clear he has a (probably manual) technique to get those sharp contrasting colours instead of a blend.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. If you search on YouTube, Jonathon did a video with Figboot where he goes through the entire thought process of figuring out the colors and then how he pours the resins.

EDIT: Here's the video I was talking about.
