Loss Of Another Pen Shop In Melbourne Australia

We recently heard the news that Tafts in Collins St was closing down.

Tonight I walked past Pen City in Elizabeth St and there was a sign in the window that said "stock take".

It wasn't until I got close to the shopfront that I realised that was the ultimate stock take.

All the stock had been taken plus fixtures and fittings and the store was empty.

Down to one physical pen shop - The Pen Place in Queen St.

The Melbourne Pen Depot previously at Chadstone SC still exists as an online supplier only.

Running out of places to be a stickybeak.

Melbourne Pen Show on 10 November can't come soon enough.

Even though I live around the area, and I for some reason have never been to those particular places, I too grieve for the loss of another pen store. Hopefully I will be able to go to the Melbourne pen show though.

What about Milligram and Bookbinders Design?

I went to Pen City after they re-opened but their stock was only a tiny fraction of what they had before the flood. They do seem to be still active online. Does Tafts still have their suburban stores?

Milligram is a stationary shop with a limited range of fountain pens from one brand. Doesn't quite qualify as a pen shop.

Don't know Bookbinders Design but website list limited range of pens.

Really?

I have no idea whether it actually has pens in all of the above brands in its bricks-and-mortar stores, but I'd be very surprised if it has stock of only one brand in store and not at least Lamy, Kaweco and Pilot.

So sorry. I hate to see pen stores go away.

The KCMO pen store is called The Pen Place like the one the OP mentioned. Small world.

When I visited Milligram at Melbourne Central they did an excellent job of hiding all pen brands other than Lamy.

In any event, even if they stock Kaweco and Pilot, it's not much of a range or selection for a fully fledged pen shop like the recently deceased who stocked a multitude of brands.
