Anyone Has The Hero 395?

I've just purchased this pen online, still hasn't reached me.By chance and while searching for flex nib fountain pens information, I spotted a Russian YouTube video demonstrating this pen...An it was FLEX! Well, the video's author stated semi flex... but I've bought semi flex FP's and I tell you they have lover flexibility than this Hero!

Then I searched for more information...Particularly, I found another closeup video showing it in action...and it flexed like a bird's wing, apparently with no effort on part of the user.

So, my question is...If you own this fountain pen, what is your experience with it? The weird fact is, some reviewers say "I must say this is not a flex nib"...but then they show you a writing sample with a remarkable line variation, definitely flex-style!

Well i have one and it's not been made to be a flex nib that it's just a coincidence a thing that just happened .

This pen it is a nice writer but i did not try to flex him ( i must confess flexing it's not my thing ) .

I love Fountain Pens, with hooded nib in the classic style, Parker 51/61 type .

I had ten, used two, wasn't impressed with the line width, and eventually binned those two and gave the rest of the NOS away, including four of them to Aussie FPN folks who wanted to participate in redistribution surplus and unwanted goodies.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Well had that , OK first off Hero never aim to made flex nib and never advertise likewise .. and the nib is not a flex nib by any account, yes its somewhat soft ( as compared to modern day steel ) and give decent bit of line variation when utilized with proper writing skill ( penmanship ) but let's put it down as a coincidental advantage instead of a feature ; AFAIK .. unless we are talking nibs like those that's made say early 50's or before ; there is really no Chinese fountain pen nib that's made to be flex nib ; some individual models come out soft and give decent line variation when properly employed , sure , like the one on the 395 or the Wolff 186/286 or the many 1990's 10K gold nib of no.5 size ; again one had to figure flex is simply a property not needed, and in many cases properly unwanted in writing the said language

  • 2 weeks later...

It doesn't go super fine, which limits the line variation, and the feed isn't designed to keep up with flex, which means you'll get a lot of railroading if you don't use a very wet ink. But mine does flex much more easily than the Noodler's flex pen I have.
