Back In Tokyo (Long And Lots Of Pictures), Part 2

Continuing from last post, I did pay a mandatory visit to Ginza Itoya. The fountain pen section is in the main building now and some had said it in the past, it is not as intimate as before when it was in the smaller building. I enjoyed Tokyo very much and as stationary heaven, how can one resist buying pens. I will be back. Thanks for reading and tolerating such long post.

Oh my what beautiful pens, pretty expensive! What a fun trip, I loved going pen shopping in Germany, now it looks like I need to put Japan on my list!

Sounds like a lot of fun! How I wish you had visited Maruzen Marunouchi too and took detailed photos of their LE pen selection. I’m still trying to figure out what a pen I saw there was, wish I’d taken a photograph.

The unlabeled Pilot maki-e pens about half way down. What are those? New Zodiac collection? Google did not turn up anything?

According to Pilot's website, these are the Zodiac maki-e pens painted by Japanese artist Nakamachi Riki. They are made to order and is 200,000 yen + tax each.

I shuddered when I saw the Namiki with the 700,000 Yen price tag. That's a piece of art, not an instrument for actual writing.

Doesn't mean to say I have the equivalent of over five thousand UK Pounds.

If you're in Japan and your purchase is over ¥5000 ($50 US), you can get a refund with your passport. I think it's about 8%. Often prices are considerably less than US retail, but, you do have to get it back to the states. Unless someone is there purchasing and bringing goods back, shipping charges are usually significant.
