Pilot Blue Black Demonstration

This is my first real contribution to the site- please forgive any unintentional faux-pas!

 

A friend of mine wanted to see what Pilot Blue-Black (one of my favorite inks ever!) looks like on Tomoe River paper, so I write a thing up for her to check out in person using lyrics to one of her favorite songs.

The pics were taken with my phone camera, with no editing done on them at all. The only light used was the evening sunlight from my window.

 

While the demonstration was intended merely to show off the appearance of the ink, I'll include my thoughts on its performance for you all:

 

I love this ink. It's nondescript enough to be used in a professional setting, but also quite exciting (just look at the shading, and the SHEEN that it has on Tomoe River paper!). It's easy to clean out of a pen, and is pretty darn water resistant (so much so that I use it to address envelopes to penpals, but it isn't directly advertised as waterproof of archival by any means). In terms of flow, I would define it as being wet, but not gushy. I haven't used it on a particularly broad nib as of yet, but it has behaved marvellously on all of the EF through M nibs that I've used it with. I haven't experienced any bleed or feathering with it on cheaper paper; as such it's become my daily-carry ink, along with my EDC pen, the Lamy CP1 (f nib).

The only downside I can find to this ink is that it is quite prone to staining demonstrators, so I don't use it in demo pens.

 

Other than that, it's easily the #1 most heavily used ink in my collection. the 350mL bottles for 20 bucks are hard to argue with.

Heavens, is that so? I haven't used it in a demonstrator, but all of my converters that I've used it with haven't shown any degree of staining.

 

And yes, it is a wonderful value I think! Especially for what it offers in terms of performance and appearance!

Thank you, this is way prettier than the name would seem to imply, I see a mid blue and not a blue black.

Congrats on your first review. I’m not particularly a fan of this type of blue, but the waterproofness you mention makes up for a lot. For work I always appreciate a more waterproof ink.

Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm about what seems like a very serviceable ink.

 

As for staining, maybe the plastic used for converters is different from the plastic used for transparent pens. I have one ink that is a notorious stainer, but after more than four years of using it in different pens, I've never had it stain a converter.

Wow, thank you all so much for the kind words! A special thanks to amberleadavis for fixing the photos for me- I think it'll be easier for me to do when I sit down to post from home, instead of sneaking away while at work...
