Bock 8 Nibs In An Indian Pen

Hi all,

I have 2x Bock 8 nib units with no pens and I've been thinking of getting a Ranga model 5 (clipless) in the acrylic, which is currently on the group-buy lists. I've never bought any indian pens, so i don't even know the advantage of group buys but that's not the question.

Are there any options that already take a size 8 nib? Or will you have to get in touch with the maker and specifically ask for that?

What suggestions can you offer me in this uncharted sea for me?

In fact, if anyone has one they're selling, that might make my life a bit easier. I'm in the UK.

Group Buy prices are generally cheaper than retail price by 15 to 20 %

There are currently only #6 nib unit options....

If you want to get #8 nib then it will be out of group buy order and will incur you more charges

This may be the best option. I've not seen a pen taking a #8 nib on the Ranga site.

Add lightness and simplicate.

In the current group buy, Ranga pens are offering the option of Bock#8 gold nibs for their model 5 pen.

Model 5, the big size pen from Ranga pens. If need be, you may also ask for an additional section with #6 nibs in addition to section to take # 8 nibs. You have the option of getting the pen without the nibs.

But not the option to buy the pen without the nib. I already have 2 nibs and only want a pen to use them.

It's a good idea as you suggest to also get an extra section for No.6 nibs as I have plenty of those. :)

I looked at Bock's web site (https://www.peter-bock.com/products/nib-systems), and I didn't see anything called a #8. Their large ones are called 350 and 250 and 220, and I am guessing a #8 might be one of those? In any event, the minimum number in a direct order from them is 5,000.

A better question is ... suppose I bought one of those lovely Rangas threaded for Bock #8. Where might I buy Bock #8 nibs in small quantities?

You can buy individual 380 (#8) Bock nibs, made of titanium or gold, from Beaufort Ink in the UK (https://www.beaufortink.co.uk/bock-fountain-pen-nibs/bock-standard-size-8-fountain-pen-nibs-type-380) or from fpnibs.com in Spain (https://www.fpnibs.com/nibs/bock.html). They don't seem to make a steel version. I don't know of any American retailers who stock these larger nibs, but someone else may be able to help you with that?

I sent an email message to Ranga Pens, and I requested a Splendour Torpedo that was threaded for a Bock 380 unit. I bought my Bock 380 unit from fpnibs.com, because I wanted a reground tip.
