Montblanc 74 And 24 Barrel Swap (Help Needed)

Hello guys. I am planning to do a barrel swap on a Montblanc 74 with a Montbanc 24. From what I read, the dimensions are equal and this should be doable. However, I have a few questions.

1: Is the resin used in Meisterstuk line pens different, in particularly cosmetically or durability-wise to that of Montblanc's lower end pens (in this case, a MB 24)?

2: How should I go about removing the piston mechanism? How does it fit and are special tools required?

Barrel should be the same (same material; only gold plating was advertised in different qualities for different lones) . Filling knob is different.

 

The piston mechanism is friction fit and difficult to remove. You need a special tool or lots if luck, heating and trying.

Ah, I see what that tool is meant to do. I think I don't need the tool. If I damage the barrel in the process, that'd be unfortunate but I have a spare. I'll report back when I receive the 74 in a few weeks.

Yes, if the barrel is cracked it is easy to remove.

Unfortunately for me, the barrel is merely scratched- enough to have me remove it but not enough to help me do so. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

why not just change caps and swap nibs ???

No, the cracks are, or, at least appear to be, quite deep. Sanding and polishing will significantly weaken the barrel, and thin it down by a noticeable degree. Would it be possible, perhaps, to remove the filling knob without removing the entire piston mechanism

As it turns out, I lost the auction for then broken MB 74. Thanks for the help anyway, it'll help me disassemble the 24 for cleaning if nothing else. Also, how does the first generation MB 121 with the MB 14's nib compare to the MB 14? Or in other words, what are teh differences between the MB 121 and MB 14 besides the nib?
