New And Confused 146/149 -Vs- Le Grand

ReallyReal

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

New to fountain pens in general. I know the 146/149 are the Mont Blanc flagship products, so where does the Le Grand fit in? What if any is the difference in the 146/149 and the Le Grand? I have a feeling you all are going to say, the Le Grand is a cartridge pen and not an old school piston filler. But I just don't know, please someone enlighten me. I'm not able to find anything immediately helpful from Dr. Google.

The 146 model is also called the Le Grand. The 144/145 is called the Classique or Chopin depending on the year. The 114 is called the Mozart. The 149 was sometimes referred to as the Diplomat, but since that is also a different pen I dont think that name was ever official or if so not for long. People still use the name on occasion in discussion forums.

Thank you all for the information. That has answered my question. BTW .. My Le Grand is cleaned and writing! Marlow, thank you for the overwhelming information in that link.. By the time I got about half way through it, most of my questions had been answered.

I always though Le-Grand was a sub brand name for all their large pens, so 146, 147 and 149 for their fountain pens inbthe Le-Grand range which also included ballpoint and Rollerball pens and a pencil

Hi everyone

I have recently acquired MB Le Petit Prince Le Grande. I had a few questions in my mind which have been cleared after reading this blog. I thank all of you for putting up the question and your wonderful replies.

I have a query regarding which ink to use in my Le Grande? I am not sure if it would be appropriate to ask this question here or in some another blog. Kindly direct me accordingly. Currently I am using Permanent Blue in my MB. I would like to know your views about this ink in terms of safety and ease of maintenance.

I would like to use Iroshizuku Asa Gao(My fav ink) in my MB Le Grande. Is it safe to use? Can I use any other brand in my MB like Pilot, Diamine, Sailor, Platinum other than MBs own inks?

Thanks and regards

Use the inks you mention in your MB pens without a worry. They are high quality inks that are used by fountain pen users the world over.
