Is It Wierd To Combine Solid Gold Nib With A Lamy Alstar?

I was selling a Pacific ocean blue Lamy Alstar with a 14k solid gold nib in the past few months. The nib grade is extra fine. I bought the pen and the nib seperately and put them together since I thought the color is really compelling however, a pal said my gold nib had a tad bid of baby bottom. And thus, I could not have my pen sold though the pen is mint and I set a fair price for it.

 

Do you guys regard Lamy alstar as a student pen? Is this conbination unproper?

No, other people have done it. Further, I and others have replaced steel nibs in some pens like Esterbrook Js and Waterman Laureats with gold nibs from Waterman and Sheaffer pens that met their end somehow, and why let a perfectly good gold nib languish in a parts storage?

I have a gold nib in my Safari All Black and it rocks. I got the idea from one of the most respected collectors on this forum, so no, it's not weird.

I put a gold nib on a Lamy Nexx for a while.

Nothing wrong with a modern, inexpensive pen that acts as host to a vintage gold nib (and feed). It's a combination that serves me well when the vintage pen cannot be easily repaired. Nothing wrong with a modern gold nib either, although I'm not sure that it changes much in the behaviour and performance of the pen. Mixing and matching is all part of the fun. As for the baby bottom, it's a problem that can be easily solved with careful tine alignment and a bit of smoothing.

I have had a 14K nib on a Vista filled with Noodler's BSB. Quite striking.
