Spencerian Mod For My 149? Who Combines Reasonable Turn Around Times With Competent Ability?

I have a 149 with a 14k medium nib. I would love to make it a fine or extra fine with added flex. I dont mind the $60 or so dollars that the heavy hitters charge, but cant justify twice that to get the pen back in less than six months. I would love to get the pen back in a month or so for $60-ish dollars. Anybody have any suggestions?

I dont know that anyone can (1) add extra flex, meaning a MB nib is an MB nib, and if you are hoping to get a MB nib to behave like a vintage Waterman nib, well that wont happen. (2) the good nib-meisters who can be trusted to modify a MB nib so that you are satisfied with the end product all have long wait times.

There is only 2 people who can actually put Spencerian mod on a fountain pen. John Mottishaw at Nibs.com and Richard Binder which is hard to convince to do this work anymore. I believe that John charges $150 or so for the mod because it's not an easy mod do to.

But the caveat is I want to be clear on what a Spencerian mod actually is. That's because you used the word flex afterword which to me at least, might mean not a very clear understanding of a Spencerian mod. A Spencerian mod, at least based on what John offers is a nib that as closely mimics the way flex dip nib performs. Needle point, snap back which means it's no longer a general use pen. It's a highly specialized tool to write Spencerian with. I find it hard to use a modded pen to write with.

It sounds like you want a flex mod. Best if you wait for the soft 149 to be introduced later in the year.
