Moonman M600S: Moonman #6 Nib, New Colors, Cheaper

Not sure why you would buy another after what you have described but that is your choice.

I think the nib has a little baby's bottom and with the slight back heaviness it is not ideal to hold in a relaxed fashion.

I would not say that I "deserved" better. I knew these types of things is a gamble. If someone asked me though for beginner pen suggestions in the price range, this isn't really a game changer at all. I would still suggest the metropolitan, loom, even safari. Wing sung makes cheaper pens that are more comfortable to write with and better performers.

Following up on this, I do like the pen more than during my first impression. It feels less cheap than I first thought, and the nib is actually a nice one. I've ordered 2 more #6 moonman nibs to put on Ranga pens since I don't like the price of Jowo/Bock nibs and Jinhao's are not nice enough.

The feed does run dry though unfortunately, even if the nib is not that wet.

And the comfort is still not optimal imo. I prefer the WS 698 for comfort.

I got the brown M600S, fine nib yesterday. Ordered from pens-world, ebay.

First impressions are really good. The pen seems to be very solidly designed and built. The fit of the cap's threads is one of the best and smoothest I've seen on a Chinese pen.

I wouldn't say it's a very light pen - perhaps if you're used to metal pens it may seem so, but other than that it's rather substantial. Lighter than unmodified Kaigelu 316 but that's a huge improvement as far as I see it.

Writing seems to be OK, the fine nib is smooth, could be wetter for me, but writes well enough. For now I unfortunately also experienced some very quick dry outs if I leave the pen unused and uncapped even for a very short moment. This may also be the ink's fault (first fill with Diamine Majestic Blue) so I'll wait with the judgement on that.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, Moonman M600S doesn't post. Not that it's a problem for me, considering the size of the pen, but I think I've heard people in YT reviews claiming it does post. I get the feeling that to some people if you can shove the cap on the back of the barrel by any means, that's enough to claim that the pen posts. I firmly disagree.

Moonman M600S "posts" the same way as Kaigelu 316 and Conklin Duragraph, which is to say it pretty much doesn't. Yes, you can put the cap on the barrel's finial if you really want to, but it's not secure, not stable and not useful in any way. This isn't posting, this is forcing.

But that's just a side note.

I've been seeing these in two new colours: a purple one with swirls (like the teal one), and a blue-and-copper one. They seem to like this model.

I just ordered the blue/copper one.

Nah, let Pelikan continue to more or less specialise in brown pens, and leave the funkier colours (or combinations) to Moonman and Delike, etc. Actually, I have a three-pen leather case that has three brown Moonman pens in it right now, and two of them have Schmidt nibs. We don't need more cheap brown Chinese pens. :)

after the bent cap issue was cured by the seller by sending me a new pen (glad I insisted in getting a full replacement, I tried swapping the cap on the first pen but found that it would not screw on, the barrel is also imperceptibly bent like the cap!) I now can enjoy the M600S.

There was still an issue with the second pen received, the fude nib was scratchy...I immediately tried swapping the nib from the warped pen in. This one works well!

So from two pens I have a perfectly working one, phew! Glad most others here did not experience this.

Here is the pen at last

This is my first fude nib, I'm sure I cannot use it properly as it's supposed to be in oriental calligraphy, but it sure is fun (I can get narrower and wider line by tilting the pen on the vertical axis as I write...somewhat odd to have a wide horizontal line rather than vertical, like with a stub nib... ).

Past two weeks I've been using my M600S and I'm quite satisfied with it.

Initially I had some problems with ink flow though. Not to the point of ink starvation, but the writing would get very dry at times and then wetter again. I tried cleaning the nib slit and making it a bit wider, but it only made the wet moments wetter, the dry moments still occured. I had the same problem using three different inks.

Eventually I replaced the stock converter with an empty cartridge (one that I originally got with Conklin Duragraph) filled again with Diamine Majestic Blue. This seems to have solved the problem - the flow is consistent and wetness is adequate.

Only downside that remains is starting problems after the pen was unused for a few hours - it seems to me that the cap doesn't seal very well.

.. and another three added to the two I already have. Ordered on the 15th of July, arrived today, the 3rd of August.

Took them apart, rinsed them thoroughly, dried and put back together. Popped a Diamine Majestic Blue cartridge in two of them, en they wrote almost instantly. Nice! Good, clean lines on both college pad paper as well as Rhodia.

The 3rd one I put a Waterman Intense Black cartridge in. Look like this ink is a bit too dry for these pens, or maybe the feed of this one should be made just a bit wetter.

The Moonman nibs are nice and smooth, no adjustment needed. I ordered the boxed set with a fine (Moonman), medium and Fude nib (Jinhao). Tried the Fude nib, not my cup of tea. Maybe later, for signing Christmas cards.

I am going to give these pens away. Eventually.....

That's not a problem I'm seeing with my brown Moonman M600S, which is inked with Diamine Espresso. On the other hand, the cap on my Moonman M6, previously inked with J.Herbin Lie de Thé and now Diamine Salamander, has definitely proven ineffective at sealing the nib and feed when unused.

I have bought five of these pens now. One I already gave away, two others are also for giving away, and two I will keep for myself.

However, one thing bothered me a bit: as soon as I stop writing for more then 30 seconds, I need to push a little harder to spread the tines a bit and get ink flowing again. For me, no problem, but for give-away pens I do not like this.

So I took out the feed, and with a sharp marking knife widened the two narrow, side-by-side slits, the ones closest to the nib tip, just a little tiny bit. The taper on the knife's edge is sufficient to broaden the slits where it counts: against the nib.

Put pen down for five minutes, and it wrote immediately again after that. Repeated a few times, same same. Will test this pen out for some time, and if behavior is consistent, I am going to modify the other pens as well. As a bonus, the pen now is writing a bit wetter, without a broader line; still a nice F!

I got one mine a few days ago. It really is a nice pen and a good writer without any issues so far. (and it isn't bent ^^)

Does anybody know which type of cartridges it takes? The converter looks like a Platinum but these don't fit. Neither do the standard international.

Strange. Standard International should be ok. I use Waterman and Diamine cartridges without any issue, and these are standard international.
