Help Identify And Appraise?

I'm about to buy a cool Falcon set, and probably going to pay too much for it. The seller says it's used and (but?) in excellent condition. I know nothing more than what is in these fuzzy pictures.

Anyone know:

(1) which Falcon model it is?

(2) what year(s) it might have been made? and,

(3) ballpark idea of what it is worth (in the sense of what would sell it somewhat quickly in the FPN Classifieds)?

Would really appreciate your detective skills and knowledge about whether it is

(4) desirable to collectors (it is used, and "excellent" is not mint, although maybe it is minty? Looks like there's plating, but I can't tell if that is just removable storage crud), or whether

(5) I am the only person who might buy such a set to write with because the fp may be a good writer, and the set is just so damn snappy-looking (in a late 1970's sort of way).

Thanks for your help on any of these questions.

Scott

have a look at Tony Fischier's site here ............... https://parkerpens.net/parker won't give you all the answers you request, but very interesting - assume you've not yet looked.

F.ps. are worth whatever we're prepared to pay for them - expect we've all paid over the odds at one time or another. Can you ask the seller for more pix? - do they offer returns? You might look at other ebay examples to make price comparison.

Thanks, Paul. It is always sound advice to check Tony Fischler's site, but the entry on the Parker 50/Falcon doesn't narrow it down much beyond "around 1980," which is true of all Falcons, I think.

And while it's hard to argue with the economic principle that anything is worth whatever the market will bear, I asked about the value in part because the Ebay selling prices have varied so wildly, and still do. The FPN Historical Sales Forum is similarly uninstructive, at least to me.

So I'm open to whatever you or anyone would like to share with me by way of expertise, informed opinion, or utterly undocumented speculation.

Many Thanks!

I have a single example in brown, and a flighter version of the ball pen, both bought a year or two back and for the life of me I can't remember what I paid - the price you pay for having too many pens.

If you believe the pen to be in good condition - for a pre-owned example - and the seller appears reliable, then assuming the price being asked is somewhere in the general ball park value for a Falcon - and, of course, you have the necessary funds …………….. then you will need a bona fide reason for not buying ………. at least that's my reasoning for most of my 'I want it' passions.

This isn't a rare pen and if you can control the urge to buy then other examples will come along - though it's an unusual design, and if you're a Parker collector then owning one is probably a must - plus it costs a shed load of shekels less that a T1.

But - why did you want this pair in particular - because it comes as a set - because it's black etc. etc. ?

Good analysis. To answer your question: I bought this pair because it was less than $100 shipped. And I am sort of a Parker collector. And thought at that price I might have the option to re-sell for more like $150 or more (is that realistic?). But mostly I bought it because I was just in the mood.

I think you'd have regretted not having bought this set - congratulations:-)

Thanks! You’re probably right about that. Impulse purchases can be rewarding. :-). I am still curious what this set might fetch in the classifieds (just in case I decide to list it ), so if anyone wants to venture a guess, I’d appreciate it.

I’ll post some better pictures onto this thread when it arrives from Italy next week or so.
