Montblanc's Leather Production In Spain?

Sorry that this is not pen related, but I can't think of a group that's more knowledgeable of Montblanc products :)

As you know, in recent years some of Montblanc leather products came out with a "Made in Spain" marking. I know that MB has its own dedicated leather products factory in Italy, known as the "Pelletteria". Seen the photos and videos from that Italian facility. How about Spain though? Does MB own a dedicated factory in Spain as well, or did it just contract an existing leather producer in that country to make its products? I searched a lot, but found no reference to a MB own factory in Spain. Only a mention of wikipedia, which has no citation and was probably added speculatively by someone who saw the "Made in Spain" goods.

Any input is appreciated.

I've got a couple of Montblanc leather pen cases and one is marked made in Italy and the other is marked made in Germany. Now you're talking about Spain so it makes me think they just bid the leather construction out to whoever is either doing it or the lowest price at the time they make a run.

Montblanc has had a long lasting relationship in Spain. At one point some fountain pens were made in Spain to avoid import taxes and profit from cheaper work force. This is in Spanish http://estilograficavintage.com/montblancesp.html but Google translate should help. The relationship of the local makers lasted until 2014 according to that page. If I understand it correctly there is a continuing relationship but the headquarters are now in Madrid instead of Barcelona.

So, I wouldn't be surprised if they kept on producing goods in Spain. I'd bet that in any case, be it in one Country or another, in these times of outsourcing and offshoring, they most likely subcontract with local producers and then brand it.

As far as I know Montblanc has been producing leather goods in Spain for many years: they have contracts with some artisans in Ubrique, a town in Andalucia renowned for its very high quality leather production. They don’t have their own facilities, I think.
