Thanks. I’m not typically a fan of red or pink inks but I think this will be an exception.

I love the review. Did you find it dry? I generally prefer wet inks, but I have one pen that is insanely wet and this might be the chosen ink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Beautiful ink review, thank you!

That being said, doesn't it seem like Yama Budo "dupes" are kind of trending on the (?German?) market these days?

I already have Lamy Beryl, which may only be vaguely in the neighborhood of the same colour, but at the risk of drowning in these violet fuschia type inks, will suffice. Pelikan's take on it does look really pretty, though!

Beryl is nice and legible, doesn't seem to stain either. It is prone to feathering.

It's better than star ruby in almost every way.

Phew! I certainly don't need to expand my collection anymore, thanks! XD It's a pity Lamy is making the price of the Crystal inks so unreasonable outside of Europe, though. It'd be nice to see their Crystal line, which I've so far found to be pretty good, getting as much attention as the Pelikan Edelstein line.

The crystal line only just came out, so gotta give it some time to be established!

I got the entire 10 ink set from europe at a reasonable price of about $100 USD shipped.

I will say the cap liners for the bottles is not glued on very well, and routinely comes unglued from the cap. And the bottles are too shallow for a lot of pens.

I think the only mandatory ink in the line, for me, is Agate.

The review is very good, but I'm disappointed with that ugly pinkish colour which has nothing to do with a ruby.

The Edelstein Ruby was not the best red ink, and with the Star Ruby Pelikan completely missed the plot, imo.

Great review!

I wish you'd included MB Pink in the comparisons as well...

Isn't this the same ink they are going to give out at the Pelikan Hubs this week?

Would it be ok to put this ink in a TWSBI Eco? I have the Blossom Red version, and thought they were be a good pair, assuming we get a bottle at the Pelikan Hub this Friday.

Two people have already said that this ink stains, so it might not be such a good idea to use it in a demonstrator pen.

True, but the OP posted later about getting it cleaned out of a Pelikan demonstrator with more effort. Maybe a half fill so it doesn’t sit in the pen for as long.

Not keeping it too long in the pen probably is a good idea. I typically half-fill my pens because I enjoy using new inks frequently. My inks usually stay max 2 to 3 weeks in my pen, and then my pen gets cleaned. This ink took indeed more effort than usual, but it didn’t stain my pen.

namrehsnoom, you are much more disciplined than I am. I used to only ink 5 pens at a time. Right now I would say I have 20 inked. I finally got all the empty pens cleaned (the last 5 today). Now I hope to clean once written dry or the day after.

I used to make a new pens wait until the already in use pens were empty. It got way out of hand, and I am trying to get it under control, then keep it controlled.

Tried it after the Pelikan Hubs and I must say, I might ink my pen with this pinkish red ink.

That is unthinkable before since I don't like pinks, yellows and other bright-in your face colors.

I half-filled the Red Blossom Eco, and I noticed the Star Ruby remains in the whole barrel vs the Lamy Neon Coral I had in another Eco.

I have a backlog of letters to answer, so I will try and use the Star Ruby quickly. It would be a pity to waste it.

There are dark pigeon blood Burmese rubies, and lighter Ceylon rubies...This ink looks more like a Ceylon Ruby.

But it don't shade :crybaby: , so I'll just get the pen.

This ink continues to underwhelm. Olivine was much better, and smoky quartz was a spectacular winner.

I'm also not a pink ink user but if I can ever convince one of my daughters to get into fountain pens they would love it.

What a nice review, thank you!! I love my bottle- got it for free at Pelikan Hub, and I've been in love with it since. Fast dryer, doesn't smear for me, and it shades nicely in a blendier nib. It's a more pinkish red, that feels different than Yams-Budo, which to my eye has more purple to it. Between the two, I'd say that I prefer Star Ruby by a hair. :)

That is an extensive review. It must have taken you a long time to finish. I appreciate the effort and time you put into it. I like this colour but your review made it a must have ink, hopefully it will still be around for a bit.
