'Meteor' 3D metal printed fountain pen (and nib)

I have been away for a while (however, active on the not-so-official FPN page on Fb. Sorry for that!).

Recently I brought my latest design, the 'Meteor' to the market (limited edition). All its metal parts are 3D printed:

  • Barrel, cap: stainless steel (316L)
  • Nib, shaft, clip: titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V)

There are some variants:

  1. Pure
  2. Pure+ (shaft polished)
  3. Merlot Red (also cap and barrel polished/colored)
  4. Royal Blue (also cap and barrel polished/colored)
  5. Soon: Britisch Racing Green (also cap and barrel polished/colored)

The pen comes with a box that is also its display stand and is - of course - also 3D printed (PA12 with HP's Multi-Jet Fusion technology).

Also personalization is available, like the inclusion of a monogram or logo in 3D.

Does the nib require adjusting/polishing/grinding or is it "flawless" right off the printer? How fine can you print the tip?

I could get used to the pen - but not the clip.

A question: correct that the stripes of the cap will lock in the barrel? see green pen cap

No chance that someone will get hurt by simply closing the pen? If so, I wouldn't sell it to countries where people like sueing. I have a big one in mind.

Very nice! It is nice to see something different out there but not outlandish. I am impressed.

The pointy stripes on the cap caught my attention too as seeming sharp. I wonder how smooth the tipping is—probably polished by hand?

Correct! 3D metal printing (AKA additive manufacturing) is NOT clicking the PRINT button and there it is. Not at all ! So, still quite an amount of old fashioned craftsmanship is involved.

One major difference with the conventional approach however, is that a significant part of the creation process is digitalalized.

The lock is managed by a collection of springs inside the shaft, identical to the concept I already used for my first pen (see below)

No one has complained about the edges yet. Never got hurt myself neither :)

3D Metal printing requires a significant amount of postprocessing (still very traditional craftsmanship is involved). However, the slit is included in the metal print (patent pending), so its not the result of subtractie postprocessing.
