Cross Tech 3

I have been using a new Cross Tech 3 pen which has 3 writing modes---black ink, red ink, and pencil. I have located a source of the black and red ink but NOT the lead cartridge which I have been told should be available. I also was told by another user that the ink refills come in different colors.

Any help would be appreciated? Thanks, :bonk: Donal

On the Cross site it looks like the Tech 3 uses loose 0.5mm lead, which is available at most all office supply stores.

YMMV

All you have to do is separate the plastic part of the pencil bit from the rest of the pen, and you'll expose the lead holder. I think the instruction sheet said that you can put up to 3 pieces of 0.5mm lead in it.

Hi... I just found this forum via a search on Cross Tech3 as I need to put refills in mine and couldn't remember which refills went with it or how they went in. I am not sure if they go in the same backwards way that other Cross pencils go, or if they are like a more cooperative mechanical pencil and can be dropped in from above. I will have a closer look, but yes they take the .5 (I wasn't sure if they were the .3 -- I know we have some .3s here).

Also, I wanted to say that while Cross does not make a blue refill in this size (yet), there is another brand that does. It isn't quite so fine as the black and red Cross refills that the pen comes with, but if you really want blue, you can get it. Maybe other colors too, I didn't check. I got mine from Sam at Pendemonium.com . She is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Important note: Do not put these pens through the washing machine!

Hello.

I have a TECH3 CROSS pen and would like instructions on how to change the refills on it. I took off the top barrel, removed the eraser and the screw-cap, and there they are; the three cartridges all with some sort of a clip on them. I know that you are to remove the clip in order to change the refill, but can't figure out how to go about it.

I want to change the BLUE cartridge but the plastic clip is right in the housing. How do I go about replacing the refill??

I would really, really appreciate anyone's' help.

Thank-you

Alex

Alswan, First take the Tech 3's cap off.

Then hold the plastic moulded top part, near the middle, then with other hand, hold the lower barrel part and just pull them apart.

Inside the lower half you should see the refills. Hold the one you want to change, pull it right out. Replace with a new one.

Some of these short refills have a colour band around the tip.

With multi-function pens I've seen, to replace the leads, it's easiest to pull the pencil cartridge right out of the pen, put the new leads in at the top (open) end, then plug the cartridge back in. Mine uses 0.5mm leads.

(I don't have the Tech 3, mine is the Franklin Covey Melbourne by Cross.)

Monteverde sells a good gel-refill.

I think the size of these refills is a standard sold by many brands. ( D1 size )

And any 0.5 pencil refill will do. I prefer a B or 2B grade myself.

Thanks Mike for your help. LOL. I THOUGHT TOO MUCH ABOUT THE PROCESS- taking off the top barrelI etc. and all I had to do was to remove the bottom barrel, then merely pull out the cartridge in question, and insert the refill into its slot. LOL. I really complicated the issue, eh? Because of your help I know now how to do it. Thank-you.

Thanks for the tip D!!
