What Has Been Your Least Favorite Ink So Far?

MontBlanc Oyster Grey...I like the ink...however I get a headache trying to read it...even on normal copy paper. My eyes might be getting old.

I just bought a bottle of MontBlanc Swan Illusion...I hope it is a little more saturated or else I will be adding that ink as well to this list.

Blessings.

David

Oyster Grey is a bit light. And so is Swan Illusion, except that in a wider nib, it shades beautifully. Hope you like it.

Deborah,

What can be done to darken MB Oyster Grey?

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

David

Maybe adding one eentsy drop of either brown or black to the ink? Depending which way you want the gray to lean...and do it in a vial, in case the mix curdles or something.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

What pen are you using in? Try using it in a wet fine or medium nib. I really like it in a wet, stub nib because of the shading. Truthfully, I only had a few cartridges of Oyster Grey which I used and have not purchased a bottle. Now that I have Swan Illusion, I may not buy a bottle for awhile.

Perhaps you could add a small drop of MB Mystery Black (non iron-gall), or even a drop of Pilot Iro. Shin-kai to add just a touch of blue to it. But if you mix, be sure to do so in a small vial and let it sit for a few days to insure no sedimentation or precipates form.

I use a MB 149 in a XXF, XF, or F. I also have a bespoke pen made by Shawn Newton with PO nib by Mark Bacas. I have them set on the wet side so I can make copies. I went through a major pen and ink purge one year ago. No more impulse buys.

I did at one time try adding MB Mystery Black. I think there was a lot of overlap in the color and it would not change.

I am really curious about MB Swan Illusion. It's sitting in customs with a pen as we speak. The color really intrigues me...I know it will not be saturated...the pictures I've seen make it look vintage. As long as my copier can pick it up I am good or I will use for journaling.

David

Looks like the pen is pictured, and possibly some sort of TWSBI or something (which I don't know), but it almost looks like the Platinum black my Preppy comes with. If not that, it kinda leans toward the Heart of Darkness, except for I haven't seen any of my pens write that pale. (May just be my eyes)

If it isn't too bright for you, it isn't bright enough for me.

Kinda also the point of using Blue Eel. Go big or go home. :D

It's a TWSBI Go. I thought it was a Platinum Preppy however something didn't look right.

I like the color of the ink...it looks black with a green hue.

I'll buy the Go. The ones on Goulet look almost identical. Especially the blue one.

The Preppy is one I knew it wasn't as I had one in my hand as I was trying to guess, and it isn't that.

Iectraplayer...

I thought it was a Preppy with tape around the barrel...however it is the spring for the filling mechanism.

I'm not a picky person when it comes to liking an ink, since I like fountain pens so much. That being said, I just can't get on board with Noodler's Baystate Blue. I know you can thin it with water to make it behave, and I know people rave about the popping colour it has, and blue is my favourite colour. Every time I see it on paper, though, I find myself disliking the actual colour of it, not just the general misbehaviour of the ink. It's just not a blue that I enjoy looking at, I guess.

I think it depends a lot on pen and paper. Sometimes I look at it and think it's not that special at all. Sometimes I look at it and smile. But at any rate I use it a few times a year. I could probably sell it and never miss the experience.

I can understand that. I have a bottle of it, but don't use it a lot, and because of the staining issues -- and the bad interactions with other inks -- I limit its use to a dedicated pen. And truthfully, I'm not wild about the color either. Noodler's Liberty's Elysium is a much nicer color blue; BSB tends to lean a little into the purple end of the spectrum for my taste.

Noodler's Summer Tananger. Horrid feathering on everything! Worst ink ever.

But possibly one of the coolest ink names ever. :)

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.
