What Has Been Your Least Favorite Ink So Far?

Funny you should say that...Sailor Chu Shu is one of my favorite inks.

Regards,

David

I love ChuShu. I bought it thinking it would be purple, was initially disappointed, but then it grew on me. Im not in the Ill never buy Sailor again camp by any means, but the price increase has encouraged me to branch out a bit more. Purple Soul and ChuShu are not the same but they can satisfy the same mood, if that makes any sense.

I was tempted by Purple Soul but then read a review (of Purple Jazz, which is apparently the same ink) revealing that it's one of the Oster purples that lean toward green:

Ive not seen any green, but it is a strange chameleon color. Thus far Ive caught it anywhere from a very subdued (grey) periwinkle to something akin to Diamine Lilac Night to grey. I find it fascinating.

I don't know how I feel about it. I like Chu Shu however I find with MontBlanc inks I can write on almost any kind of paper and the line is tighter than Sailor made inks. I'm not a MontBlanc Fanboy...the colors I use are professional yet classy. The cost is bad. I'm thinking about buying R & K Sepia because it has a vintage feel...Be_a_Lady talked me into that. I am not into paying more for less ink though. I'm not boycotting them. I want to see what the fallout is. I have 6 bottles of Sailor, Kobe, and Bungubox. I was going to load up and decided not to. I might even sell some I have because I didn't like the colors.

Regards,

David

I don't like Noodler's inks, but especially Bernanke Blue(as it was developed for lefties in mind and I'm a lefty), I decided to try a sample, and I'm glad I did because it feathered even on Rhodia paper. So far, I've been lucky in regards to my ink choices

So true.

I used to call it Bernanke Bleed. Pretty color, though. ;)

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Pelikan 4001 brilliant red. It's not lightfast, it feathers, it bleeds, it never properly cleans out of a pen again, I have a sneaking suspicion that at least the older recipes ate through pistons, and it also looks really danged ugly.

I'm also not a fan of 4001 royal blue, but that's probably just because I used it for far too long and got fed up with it. Oh, and its complete lack of permanence is a bit of a pain as well.

Diamine Oxblood has the loveliest color I've ever seen, but it tends to crystallize in the pens and it's just too fussy. Same goes for Standardgraph Burgundy.

Seems like red inks are a bit of a dicey matter in general.

I keep hearing this about Diamine Oxblood, but I've never had the problem. How long does it take to crystallize?

Hard to say, depends on the pen. In my admittedly terribly fussy (or just plain terrible) Delta Dolcevita Federico, about two days, tops. In an actually decent pen, maybe up to a week or two. The main issue is usually terrible nib creep that turns into a crusty mess and makes an even bigger mess trying to wash it off. I've also had it crystallize in converters before, but that usually doesn't happen unless you accidentally forget about the pen. It does seem to wash out pretty well, to be fair, but it's decidedly unsightly and I'm worried about clogging something anyway.

Noodler's Apache Sunset. I do like the shading, but it lost me once I discovered that I kept encountering 'gummy' writing and smear creation days after the fact. ("How'd I get orange on my hand? Ohhhhhh.")

I went so far as to splash some Apache Sunset on a piece of paper that I subsequently suspended over the grill of our Vermont Castings (cast iron) gas stove for days, defying the ink to dry.

It did not. It remained damp and ewwy.

I moved on without it.

Least favorite appearance-wise (as opposed to poorly performing)? Waterman Harmonious Green, hands down.

Funny, that's the one green ink I like (not being very fond of green inks in general). May I ask which green ink you do like?

My least favourite is any black and I don't even know why.

Montegrappa blue, which is a pasty blue grey, watery thing with somewhat poor flow and so dull. Nice bottle though.

I love dark greens - Saillor Miruai, Diamine Dark Forest, GvFC Moss Green, pretty much anything in this range.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

I've been mulling over this topic since it was created. I suppose my least favorite so far has been a bottle of Sheaffer Purple that I can't get to cooperate with any of my pens. In fact, I haven't found a purple ink that I can enjoy, although I've tried several.

That's really too bad. All my inks, except one, are purple.

Haven't given up - just need to save up for some samples.

I'm not a fan of high sheening inks anymore because I don't want to deal with the forever smudge qualities that come with it.

And, J. Herbin Lie de The. I know it's popular here (which is why I got it; also, I like tea), but I find it to be a sickly brown.

A number of other red/orange inks do the same thing. It has something to do with the dyes and saturation. Ancient Copper is famous (notorious?) for it. I just rinse it off and write. It has never damaged a nib, feed, or sac.

Montblanc blue-black.

Ridiculously pale to write with, and yet it blocked my 146. MB repaired the pen (for a hefty fee), and then tried to insist that I buy *more* MB ink.

I tried MB Permanent Blue-Black and found it underwhelming. I've tried samples of a couple of others, like Toffee Brown but didn't like the colors. The only two MB inks I have bottles of are Lavender Purple and the Beatles Psychedelic Purple LE -- and I originally was going to by that last and put it back on the shelf because of the price.
