Montblanc Meisterstuck Le Petit Prince & The Aviator

A new release from Montblanc, and while I see the pen on the website, i saw no one here is talking about it!

There seems to be a Resin and a Solitaire version about it, just like last year.

Resin is brown, and Solitaire has a leather covered cap, and silver body. The nib shows a sheep.

I had thought that I might pass on this year's offering, but seeing the picture you posted Reed made me change my mind... that one is definitely on the list (providing it isn't some VERY limited edition). I think it is quite wonderful. The Penworld link shows it <$2K, so that's doable... wish it was available in something other than F or M though.

You can exchange from EF up to OBB for free. All 146 nib widths are an option.

The LeGrand Solitaire is on my list when my reseller will receive it. Impatient to see the leather cap in real because wasn't big fan when see first photo but better photo and in real could change my mind about it. I will probably exchange the nib by a BB. I don't have yet a BB and foreseen to have one on my Purdey but I'm so happy by the medium and the way it writes I keep it.

Thank you zaddick. I've never asked for a nib exchange except on regular production pens... any idea if the swap takes longer on these "special" nibs?

Contact Appelboom pennen for pricing and nib exchange times... in my case, for the new pens, its fairly quickly... less than a month.

From the US it takes longer than a regular 146 because it goes to Hamburg vs Texas. But, as noted already, if you order from Europe it is often only a few weeks if they have your desired size in stock. Then the pen goes back to the dealer and sent to you. So probably plus 2 weeks on top of usual shipping time. I find Appelboom shipping is faster than La Courone du Comte, but service is great from both.

My experience with Montblanc nib exchanges hasn't been good so far. I sent my brand new Unicef LeGrand for a nib exchange about 4 weeks ago - to the Texas service center. After 3 weeks, I called and found out that it will take at least another 12 weeks before they will even get the nib (OB) from Germany, and another 2-3 weeks to exchange the nib and send it back to me. I just hope to get it before Christmas. :D

You should be thankful you are not ordering o3B nibs on a pen with a #9 nib. Then you get into a real waiting game. They even lost one of the pens at one point.

Thanks for the helpful advice, and stories... well, maybe not the all stories ;)

Interesting. Well at least now we know the previous pictures of this that showed a lightly etched barrel was probably only a mock up

Glad for this heads up about the new Le Petit Prince pens. I bought the 146 Blue Resin last year and I may buy the brown version this year. I will need to see it first. Thanks for the posting!

Montblanc must have paid a lot of money to license le Petit Prince because they are releasing (and have released) a lot of variations on this theme. I'm sure the book has a strong following but it would surprise me if the following is strong enough to support this many models. Maybe something was lost when the book was translated to English but it didn't do much for me.

There is also a Limited Edition 943 set comprising of two solitaire legrand fountain pens in which one of them is made up of full metal and the other of full leather coming in September

A bit of extra information: the message on the cap, below the MB star, is "toutes les grandes personnes ont d'a-bord été des enfants", "All adults started by being children".

I'm underwhelmed by this year's edition, I have to say. Not even an engraved cap in the resin version, as last year. It's just a brown 146 with that message below the finial, the small star on the clip and a sheep on the nib. I'm talking about the resin version. The Solitaire is nice, but way out of my league.

From experience @Zaddick?

The Classique Duoe looks nice, but will probably hold out till FPD to purchase the Solitaire, plus they might release something interesting like the Holiday Collection from last year. Well plenty of time to save up, and Adim is quite right, the resin version is just eh?, did they ran out of ideas for the resin version?, or did they read from some feedback that some users wanted something plain as they found they fox etching a bit extravagant?

Looks nice, but as with last year's editions, I can't get past the yellow star. Especially when spending four figures on a pen.

Unfortunately the term "gimmick" comes to mind when describing so many of MB's recent releases.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
