Lamy Aion With Other Nibs

Recommended Posts

I really like the look of the Aion and the look of the new nib. But I'm wondering, what it would look like with one of the "normal" Lamy nibs (Z50, 52, 55, 56, 57). Besides curiosity this might be important if you want to upgrade to a gold nib, which are not available in the Aion (Z53) style.

Has anyone changed the nib on the Aion and took a photo? I would love to see it!

First thing people did. There are pictures around, even on FPN. Somewhere in the Aion threads.

I swapped mine out with a 0.3 mm Preppy nib. Divine! Highly recommend.

I have two Aions but I have kept the original nibs. Unlike many others here, I think the Aion nibs are slightly different. I tried a Lamy stub nib on one of my Aions and it really didn't write as well as it should have. I also put my Lamy gold nib on my Aion and again it didn't write nearly as well. So the gold nib is back on the Studio and the Aion nib is back on the Aion.

But, then again, I am rather particularly about these things - my husband says I am "too-picky" about my pens.

Good to know someone has a different experience with these nibs. I probably have to write with one myself, if I wanna know if there is a difference for me.

Interesting, I didn't know the preppy nibs fit to the Lamy feed.

Let me know if youd like me to try any particular nib on an Aion; happy to give you a quick review and photos.

Thanks a lot! Any Z50 and any black nib on an (black) Aion would be nice to see.

I agree that the Aion looks best with the proprietary nib. It seems odd that such a small detail as the flared sides would matter, but it does.

As for writing, I actually think it's more of a nail than the Z50, but that may vary from nib to nib.

Can you get spare Z53s?

Thanks a lot sentience! Nice photos for comparison.

The original Z53 nib looks best, but the black nibs work for me too. Now I am sure I need a Aion too.

You can buy spare z53's.

I've had a few of them. They're about 20% more than the z50

+1

You can't beat a Japanese nib in the 'fine' stakes. biggrin.png

The Lamy EF nibs have doubled in price apart from the debatable QC. yikes.gif Far cheaper to buy the Preppy 0.2/0.3/0.5 or even all three.
