The New Visconti Breeze

Thanks, raging.dragon. As I said, I'm new to this hobby. However, I'm an old hand at collecting and enjoying guitars. I sold guitars for a couple of years after I retired from teaching. I intimately know the experience of thinking your present mid-range guitar is all you'll EVER need until you hold and play a top of the line $5000 Martin. The trick is, don't play the Martin unless you want a serious case of GAS (Guitar Aquisition Syndrome).

I suppose the same thing goes with fountain pens. Might we call it PAS (Pen Aquisition Syndrome)? Then, I guess I'm going to be suffering from PAS GAS?

In the meantime, buying $6 to $25 Chinese pens is a benign hobby. My $300 Visconti is as much as I ever thought I'd pay for a pen. I guess the idea then is to never try a DuoFold or 149 or M800 and my modest collection will still be fulfilling.

Of course, a trip to Visconti's storefront in Florence might change all of that. ;)

Celluloid and Urushi are the banes of my budget.... No functional benefit but they look and feel nice.

Ha! I'm not so sure about that. It depends on how many you get as well. Six of these, twenty-six of that, and so on soon all adds up to $500 or more, for which some people would say could buy a 'good' pen that they'd really like and be proud to have instead.

LOL! Well, I'm mighty proud of getting excellence at a low price! I am almost more thrilled about my $25 Kaigelu than I am about my $300 Visconti! Part of that thrill is knowing that the Kaigelu is an amazing bargain. I'm not cheap, but I appreciate quality at a reasonable cost. I have a $5000 Martin acoustic guitar that is a holy grail guitar, but I also absolutely adore my rare 1968 Yamaha Red Label plywood guitar that I got for $150 and restored to playability myself.

So if my $25 pen writes as good, if not better than my $300 pen, I'm thrilled. Of course, I've spent about $300 on inexpensive ones so far... but I figure there is educational value there too. :)

Well, the Visconti Breeze came today. I've given it to my wife, she's unpacked it, inked it up and written with it for the first time (all on video of course!).

Her first impressions were that she was thrilled with the pen and with the colour. It does match her office (her office is much more muted green of course). The pen is a very vibrant colour - it isn't just promotional. It is like a Lime Sherbet. So if you are concerned about being noticed at a business meeting, don't bring the Breeze! ;)

She inked it up with Parker Blue and it wrote the first time like butter. The nib is identical to my Van Gogh and writes exactly the same. Same line, same smooth feel with a hint of feedback.

I will borrow the pen back from her when she will let me and do an overview and writing sample and take some beauty shots. Then I will compile an unboxing / review YouTube video.

I have yet to do a video/review of my Van Gogh even though I've had it for about a month. I wanted to write with it daily for about a month before I passed judgement on it. I will put that one together next week.

So basically, everyone is pleased!

Thanks!

I saw the Breeze in person while shopping yesterday. I didn´t like the form of the pen, so I went out with a black Lamy Studio.

Thanks for your review. I love the smooth like buttah feeling of my AL-Stars/Safaris, but in all honesty am drawn towards the bold, even flashy colours of the Breeze (and VGs). I suffer from a serious case of "get all the colours" (GATC). It's hard to decide which one to choose when all of them are so pretty.
