How Many Pens Do You Have?

Nine, and I’m thinking of whittling it down to four. I don’t like to think of them not being written with every day, and I tend only to use my favourite four (one for marking up docs in red, the the other three with blue ink in a bit of a rotation thing). I imagine I’ll miss the other five when they’re gone, though...

Don't imagine it. You will. I've lost count of the pens I've missed so much when I've moved them on that I just had to buy them again. It's happened to me four times with the Lamy 2000. Love it and hate it.

I’m a keen cyclist, and one of the famous “Rules” of cycling (Rule Number 12 in fact) is that the correct number of bikes to own is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. I guess the same must apply to pens!

This does not apply to pens, because it would mean you could not buy more than one pen at a time. Who wants that limitation?

Shouldn't we be including here ALL the wasteful things we DON'T do as a result of buying, er, investing in a collection?

For instance, I very rarely go out for a drink anymore, and then only to have a draft beer, PERHAPS two. Likewise for dinners out (my wife generally prefers a nice meal I carefully prepare at home, or eating with friends as their in-home guests, so no, I am not depriving her of anything, either!). My carpenter's and auto mechanic's tools are being handed down, or sold off -not added to. Christmas cards WILL be sent by ME starting this year! My signature is now legible, as are (most) comments on student papers (admittedly, that's a work in progress).

Has anyone else found redeeming evidence of this sort to present to the jury before sentence is passed?

Maybe I have a pen problem: every time I managed to get rid of some pens, I found out later that it was only excuse to get more pens... Lessons:

1. Don’t engrave!

2. Learn to let it go.

A lot of stale jokes and funning, but people like to do that.

What I hate about having a lot of pens is that I pick up and waste time with pens I don't care to use any more. The workings of fillers and so on are interesting. I find most pens have shortcomings that require too much remedial action.

Ah yes, so that should be n+N, where N is any positive integer, the larger the better.

I finally decided that I needed to winnow the collection down to what I could reasonably expect to use. I have multiples of Platinum Preppies, Varsities, and Thompson pens, so the actual total is probably less, but as I do not intend to replace the "disposable" pens when they are no longer in service, the number will continue to decrease.

If the two Pelikan Jazz Elegance I got from Massdrop ever arrive it will be 39 if my count is correct. The last tracking data was January 26 forty miles north of where I live.

I agree.

I might have been out there, kicking puppies.

There are hidden virtues in fountain pens.

My goal was to keep only as many pens that I can consistently use without any of them drying out.

This is about the limit of that.

Each pen is inked with a different ink from the day I got it.

So, each time I got a new pen, i tried a different ink.

Not sure if this is the progression for others but it just turned out that way.
