How Much To Stockpile Of Your Favorites?

I now see that I have 145 unopened bottles of ink stockpiled (i.e. excluding the inks of which I only have one bottle each, but have yet to get around to opening and testing/using), amounting to well over eight litres in total volume.

Nice to see that there is another hopelessly addicted soul out there. 😎

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

@jmccarty3 and @A Smug Dill, I'm not addicted. I give up ink in five minute increments several times a day ... when I type or sleep.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Well... like I said when I got a snarky comment from The Daughter about having a needle & syringe lying on the kitchen table:
"No, I'm not that kind of junkie..."

Does anyone have experience with stockpiling ink and then opening those bottles years later?

I love Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz. It took me years to find a brown I like this much. It works great in most of my pens and it performs well on my favourite papers. I want to get some extra bottles since it's a LE ink... will the bottles keep for a few years as long as they remain unopened?

Certain inks last almost forever, for example I have scrip ink from the 80s that is flawless, however I have some IG inks that are a few years old and have gone bad as in their sediment that clogs my pen. So the answer is it depends.

Did your bottle of 80s Skrip come to you unopened?

The bottles I purchased in the '80s were new then and I still haven't finished them, but they flow terrifically.

The bottles I purchased in the last few years have all been from the 50s 60s and '70s, all of them have worked perfectly. All of those were purchased partially full.

That's good to hear. I'm hoping that since the Smoky Quartz is not an IG and is made by an established brand that it will also keep well. Thanks for your input!

I guess I will find out, in time.

When it eventually reappears I'm going buy backup bottles of Van Dieman's Cradle Mountain Grey! If it reappears. :(

Will work for pens...

Believe it or not, that's how my wife quit smoking.  Every time she wanted a cigarette, she made herself wait for five minutes -- a mere 300 seconds.  If she still wanted it by then, she'd smoke.  If not, she'd wait till the craving hit again.  And this was a remarkably gentle way to break one of the tougher addictions out there, slowly remodeling her brain to have fewer nicotine receptors.

Just having one as backup. E.G. in recent years I fell in love with Diamine Jalur Gemilang and with Diamine Maureen, so I have 2 of each and that's it. Just like other people have mentioned here, we will find more inks that we love.

When I heard that KWZi would stop producing a few colors, including one of my favorite blues, Azure #2 (maybe my favorite now cos...(sad face)), I blythely thought, "When I run out, I'll just find another blue just like it."

Stupid mind.

Well, Pen Show Poland's coming up on the first Saturday of April, so I'll stop by Konrad and Agnieszka's table (or, if they aren't there (I'm presuming they will be), I'll check the stock of other vendors) to pick out my next favorite blue.

I do have a few gorgeous blue inks (Noodler's Manhattan Blue, Pilot Blue (I think it's gorgeous, although some consider it standard and boring), a bit of Visconti Blue left), but I really, really like KWZi's Azure #2 -- its depth of color and "velvety-ness" and flow.

I'll pick up my favorite red, too. Flame Red. I have half left in a bottle, but I really don't want to have to choose another favorite red should this one be discontinued one day.

Don't usually, but given the way things are going, inflation and shortages,  I'll be purchasing extra bottles of favorites.

Add lightness and simplicate.

My favorite was Blue #4 and Violet #4. I know he doesn't make them any longer, but I treasure them.  Have fun and give them a shout out from me.

OH, and I think Manhattan Blue is lovely.

Thanks, Amberlea. I'll pass along your warm greetings with pleasure.

Oo, see?, if I had one of those Serendipity pens, I could easily show a comparison between Manhattan Blue and Azure 2!

I think I have a dip pen not too hard to find. Hold on...

(Minutes go by....)

Aaaand, hahaha, what a mess!

The swabs made with the pointy thing in the middle (retractable pointy thing; I thought it was a glass nib, but now I don't know what it is) look about right.

That dip pen was not the one I was looking for, but, no, really, I'm supposed to be cooking. Hahaha.

Real quick, cos now Łapa's giving me the side eye, wanting to go out. Maybe this is a better representation of the colors:
