Problem Filling A Carene

My coral orange Carene recently bought on you-know-where writes really nicely - once I can persuade it to take some ink on board.

 

I'm immersing the nib fully and as far as I can tell the converter is a good fit - any other ideas please?

Did you test the converter suction by itself in a bottle?

That would be my suggestion. It may have a faulty piston seal or split lip.

In cases like this I have taken a thin toothpick or piece of thin, stiff wire and put a tiny bead of pure silicon jelly-like lubricant on the tip. Then I inserted it into the mouth of the converter and spread the silicon around as close to the piston as possible. I would next run the piston back and forth a few times and try the converter in the pen again. If this doesn't work then the converter is worn out.

My year old careen has already had the converter that came with it fail. The lip split by 2-3mm.

Fortunately I have a bag of NOS older ones with the metal band near the tip.

I heard from some YouTube channel that the Waterman converters aren't that good...

 

They recommended to get a Faber Castell converter instead.

 

BUT you could always try to contact Waterman and see what they can do for you.

I have no idea if this holds true for the high-end models like the Carene, but I just want to put out there that FC converters definitely do NOT fit inside of a Waterman Reflectis - I know, I've tried (unsuccessfully). They're too fat at the top so the pen won't close.

 

I'll also note that all 3 of the waterman converters I own are pretty good quality, though.
