Blotting Paper

Hello all

Way back when I started fountain pens I brought some blotting paper from a UK retailer named Ryman. To my great relief it turned out I didn't need it, my pens drying much faster than I had anticipated.

Recent events however have turned me around and with much wetter writers I now find blotting paper essential as my journal pages are now capable of sticking together as I turn them and continue to write. Finally get to use my blotting paper but I have found it much less absorbent than I recall blotting paper actually being. Often leading to smudging rather than lifting away the excess ink. :wallbash:

So can anyone recommend a highly absorbent blotting paper or any reasonable substitute?

Try to get thicker sheets of filtration paper or a chromatography paper. They works perfectly.

For my journal writing, I keep a piece of paper towel between the pages. Cheap, easy to find, and works perfectly.

Paper towels are the most practical, as in, they're everywhere.

I did but an old roll of Kodak Photo Blotter paper on eBay to get some good old fashioned blotter paper. I can cut it into pieces. But on a more practical note from me...it's still in the box & paper towels are so right at hand.

I use cheap copy paper folded in half in the A5 journal. Less aesthetically displeasing than paper towel, and longer lasting.

Add lightness and simplicate.

If you still wish for blotting paper after the above suggestions, The Writing Desk has a few varieties on their website: https://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/writing-accessories/blotters-blotting-paper/

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

And if you took a look at my desk, you'd see a roll of cheap toilet paper with a piece of tape keeping it together. (It's my home desk)

I got a pack of J.Herbin blotting paper sheets years ago and still haven't finished it. One stays in my journal, I keep my rocker blotter supplied, and a strip for my checkbook.

Funny you mention the strip in your check book. I do the same. A few weeks back I couldn't find mine. Oh well. So I go into the liquor store for my usual and the gal behind the counter hands me the strip I had left there the week before. She knows me pretty well I guess.

I keep several sheets of J. Herbin blotting paper in my A5 Hobonichi planner. One in the daily page, and one in the weekly calendar section. They're thick enough to use as a pencil or writing board so not to imprint the page(s) under the one I and writing on.

I had started using "construction paper" I bought at Staples in the school section when I had a hard time finding some blotting paper.

It is relatively absorbent, colorful, and cheap. Bought a pack of 8.5 x 11 inch, probably 30 sheet for about $2.00

Keep some in each notebook, journal, etc. If I don't need to blot, I use it as a bookmark.
