Hi Geodesigner,

Have you developed scratching on the barrel of the 1912 from just capping the pen?

Regards,

David

After a few weeks of use, mine is starting to develop capping marks. It's not a deep scratch, more like a slight matte area.

It's a user pen to me, and I don't really mind the marks, but if I wanted to I could easily buff the body.

Enjoy the 1912!!

I'm maintaining a comprehensive list of Iron-Gall inks. Contributions most welcome! bit.ly/irongall

As long as it can be buffed I'm fine with it...as you said it is a user pen...actually all my pens are user pens.

geodesigner: are you planning to use polishing agent or just a piece of soft cloth? The barrel of MB Heritage 1912 is lacquer on brass (cap is resin)... I would be careful with it.

I spoke to Bo Bo Olson...he said to use...pure carnauba car wax, with no petroleum products in it...and also a piece of flannel.

I was planning on using my car buffer...totally kidding...again pure carnauba car wax, with no petroleum products in it and a piece of flannel.

I've no idea if the design changed at some point but my 1912 has a thick-ish rubber ring in the cap and it's this which leaves a mark on the barrel. I've rubbed it off with my thumb a couple of times and it's returned to a good as new state. I am careful now though not to tighten the cap too much which seems to help and doesn't produce a dry out issue for the nib.

In the last month, I've picked up 2 149s, 2 146s, a Homer, a Twain (hasn't arrived yet), a Dickens, and a Hitchcock. So far, the Hitchcock is my favorite....writes like a dream :)

My first New In Box MB 149 came in today from LCdC in an EF Nib. No need to post pics...I think we all know what a 149 is unless someone wants to see one with "serious" EF nibage : )

I did order one MB Swan Illusion Ink. When I unwrapped the ink because the package looked weird...Dennis sent me 2 bottles which I thought was nice if him.

Regards,

David

Jesus1: That's good to know. Thank you.

Uncial: Mine was bought in 2015 and also has the rubber ring in the cap. It was already a widely reported issue since the beginning so I have been careful to screw the cap on slowly and not too tight. The marks are minimum so I just leave it for the moment.

Como's Heritage 1912 was purchased in 2015...4 years ago. Everyone is getting scratches on the barrel...to me it's an obvious design flaw...yet MB is a luxury product and as such they should stand behind their products and not just call it wear and tear...especially when scratches start to develop 2 weeks after you own the product. it is an $1100 pen retail in the US which is more than their flagship pen the 149 which is $930 retail in the US. I will still buy the 1912 and use it as a "writer's pen" however it is not right that MB will not stand behind their product...and they replace parts of the 149 all day long. Not very good customer service.

Finally arrived back from customization by Brad Torelli. Maybe I'll call it Hemi Noir?

Wow.

Congratulations, zaddick, that's spectacular!

Snowcapped? Or has BT put his own stamp on the jewel?

Thanks. It has the original MB derby with the star. Here it is vs a 149...

To my inexperienced eyes it looks like a very nice pen, Zaddick. Congratulations!

However, not being so informed on all the idiosyncrasies of various MB issues I'm naturally curious in which way was it customised?

Here is the original clip and nib on the pen. It's not what I would call subtle...

Gorgeous pen Zaddick. Congrats!

My latest addition is much more prosaic: this year's Le Petit Prince Legrand with an OM nib.

I heartily agree with you!!! That clip is positively awful, kitsch immediately springs to mind!!

In that case I congratulate you all the more on your choice!!
